Cybermodeller Web Site Problems

When logging onto their site today I caught a nasty virus or trojan - the precise terminology escapes me but it is getting sorted by my IT people.

Their site seemingly has had issues and has disclaimers. I gather it might not be their site per se but an ad they are running. Either way watch out and make sure you protection is up to date !!

I encountered the exact same thing about three weeks ago. When I opened up the Cybermodeler website I had a white screen with a Java window showing very briefly and then all the fun started. IF (and I stress IF) it's the same thing, I got a shot of "PC Performance & Stability Analysis Report"-virus. (Who comes up with these names BTW??). Computer harddisk drive went beserk, multiple pop-ups about system malfunctions and the majority of my files and shortcuts gone were the results.

I ran the Malwarebytes software and it appeared to eliminate the virus itself. I then manually started to recover all my files as they were not actually deleted but just hidden.

My anti virus (F-Secure Internet Security paid subscription) actually caught it initially and told me everything was okay but it sure wasn't. It appears the virus that hit me can/may/will get access to your PC through outdated versions of Java, which would explain the Java window popping up instead of the actual website. So my advise would be to keep ALL your software updated.

That's exactly what happened. Not to my home PC I may add which I keep fully protected but to the one at work which the misers won't spend money on keeping the anti virus stuff bang up to date. A false economy if you ask me. IT spent most of today sorting it but to be frank I think the guys that have our it contract are hopeless.
