wellsprop Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 (edited) Hi all, I tend to make 1/72 aircraft models but I have decided that I want a 1/72 1/76 Bofors 40mm AA (British) gun for a diorama. I have scratch built a couple of small model aircraft before and it went ok, I also scratch build detailing for my aircraft. So, I'm asking all you armour enthusiast if it is possible to scratch build a Bofors 40mm? Also, are there any detailed drawings/plans of the Bofors 40mm that could be used to help me model it. Thanks, Ben. Edited March 7, 2012 by wellsprop
Richard E Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 If it's any help, Milicast already produce a number of different Bofors kits: Click here And a crew: Click here

wellsprop Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 I am aware of the kits. I was just more curious if there are enough technical drawings and thingas to scratch build, its cheaper and it gives me something to do other than homework you see

Richard E Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 If they're still in available but John Church produced plans for the Mark II and Mark III Bofors in his range of military vehicle plans. I can't find a web presence for him but his address is (was): J B Church Honeywood Middle Road Tiptoe Lymington Hants SO41 6FX HTH Richard
The Loggie Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I am aware of the kits. I was just more curious if there are enough technical drawings and thingas to scratch build, its cheaper and it gives me something to do other than homework you see On the Airfix kit, the bars that hold the sights are too thick due to the limits of the moulding process. So, replace with brass. Also missing are the 2 x sight rings. You could do these from thin clear sheet with rings and diameters scratched on them. Dunno if PE ones exist. This one'll do me. George, out....................
Malcolm Shaw Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Milicast do PE sights for the bofors, aswell as a kit.
Rick the mad Kiwi Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Terry Gander has written a book called 'The 40mm Bofors Gun' which, IIRC, has a 1/76 scale plan, as well as some interesting photos that I hadn't seen before - though that's not saying much... FWIW, HTH
Paolo Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 (edited) here is my scratchbuild Bofors in 1/16. Idea was to sell it to somebody able to produce it, but considering it took to me and my friends nearly 3 yrs of work we would like to get some good money for him. full set pics https://picasaweb.google.com/108919935749683787214/BOFORSAAGUN90mmFullScratch# Edited November 19, 2012 by Paolo
