Viking
Looking fantastic Tom, can't wait to see it finished. I've got one of these still in the box, but noticed that there is no Registration decal on the sheet. It'll have to be cobbled up from somewhere... Also comparing the decal sheet with photos on Airliners.net, the grey rings on the tail fin look much too dark, what do others think? tomprobert
I've done a little more the the 748 this evening - namely gettting the engines together. They are of a similar standard to Zvezda's 787 engines, and are molded beautifully. Here are some detail shots for those interested: I had to add a little filler where the rear part of the nacelle joins the main body of the engine as there was a join visible, but to be honest if I'd been a little more careful in the gluing process I probably could have avoided using filler at all. Next step will be getting them cleaned up and ready for some paint. Tom
Pin
So far so good. Why do you put so much putty on these seams? I would either - use superglue - dries fast, sands well, very little needed - use liquid putty, like Mr.Dissolved Putty - apply a little with cocktail stick, remove excess with cotton bud stick soaked in nail polish remover - very little sanding is needed, if needed at all. You may try this method (I mean nail polish remover) with your engines - the cheapest NPR costs about 90p in Boots. One of advantages is that the acetone in NPR is thinned to the proportion when it does not affect plastic but melts putty - all the panel lines remain intact. PS. I found where I first seen this: http://www.centennialipms.org/FillingWithoutSanding.pdf Edited May 3, 2012 by Pin

I found where I first seen this: http://www.centennialipms.org/FillingWithoutSanding.pdf It's Revell filler so sands very easily, which is a bonus. I do often use superglue but didn't have any to hand at the time. Thanks for the ideas though - I'll have a look and may invest! I'm stuck in the past... that's the problem!!! robvulcan
Did you ever finish this one Tom. Looks fab. I was researching the Kit as I really fancy doing one and this came up. Its a big kit for me but I bet next to your big beast I saw it looks tiny. I really love the elegance of the new 800 series something about them I love.
