Antoine
As the Cutlass is nearly finished (And also quickly forgotten, I hope), it's time to go seeing new horizons. Inside the box. Boxart. Instruction sheet. Sprues. Note that there's the possibility to represent the aircraft with wings folded and flaps down. There's also the possibility to get a F4U-2 nightfighter in this box, and you can find on this sprue the AN/APS-4 radar's radome. The bomb is ok, but forget about the drop tank, unless you want a test aircraft. Test were done with F4U-1 birdcage, but the tank was operational only with F4U-1A (Unofficial denomination for clear view canopy F4U-1). As I don't like to cut canopy masks by myself, I did buy an eduard set. The decal sheet, that I won't used too much for this project. Clear sprue. You get two canopies, with a bumped one for a rear-view internal mirror.
CockneyCol
Hi Antoine, If it's like the other Corsairs from Tamiya it literally falls together, a dream build if you like, the only thing I found was it has been engineered for the wings folded option, so you need to reinforce the wings with plastic card to get them level when doing the wings down option, nothing major though. looking forward to seeing this one progress. Cheers Col'
Antoine
I've a project in mind, with a specific aircraft, so I'll try to have a clean build, as good as I can. Starting with a tamiya kit is a good point, but there's still room for improving it. For a change, I'll start with the engine, PW2800 double wasp. I took out the drill, with some 0.6mm wire (I didn't have smaller). After studying the documentation, I'm drilling the cylinders, and also the ring's base, to plug the cables. I'm looking for a good visual effect, not for functionality! Cables are cut, and then glued with CA. Cables in place. A quick dry look, with the cowling in place. Cables looks a bit too big, but otherwise it looks ok.

Silverstone 2
Ridial engine detail is very impressive. Nice work! Does this 1/48 F-4 have folding wings like the Trumpeter 1/32? Or is it simply an option for folded or unfolded. It was such a shame the mechanism on the Trumpeter version didn't work that well Phil
Antoine
Radial engine detail is very impressive.Nice work! Does this 1/48 F-4 have folding wings like the Trumpeter 1/32? Or is it simply an option for folded or unfolded. Impressive maybe, but still very easy to do. And I think the wire are a bit too big... This F4U- (Note the dash's position) is no toy, so its folded, or unfolded.
