Got some spare canopies from Pavla Mk.Ib cardoor, and comparing the shapes with academy one, I decided to try the fi of the canopy on academy fuselage.

As academy offers very soft detail in the cockpit, moreover misplaced, I decided to scratch the basic framing from sretched sprue, styrene sheets etc.

Just commenced works:

  • 2 weeks later...

Fuselage closed, nothing particular to write about, as I decided just to drybrush white over black dashboard, moreover car door will remain closed.

Instead I cut the oversized exhausts, and currently I'm trying to eliminate those terrible seams in the radiator intake.

Rescribed doors...

This has the makings of a very nice model.

I beleive there is a resin cockpit for this kit but when I saw it fitted, it seemed to fillup the cockpit, reducing the inner space considerably. Your choice of a scratch built version, using plastic card etc , will look more authentic I think.

Keep up the progress reports.

Thanks :)

Scratching something pushes abilities as well as substantially reduces the expenses. And, if made good enough, gives the satisfaction, incomparable to sticking aftermarket parts into kit.

Desert scheme.

First one will be in desert scheme. When checking references, I got some profiles, though no photos in desert, apart from night one. Desperately looked for Model Aircraft Monthly 5/2006, got somewhere info about article covering Typhoon NF.Ib, unfortunately, no luck. :(

Thanks much, I already seen most of those pics, still I didn't find pic of any of three desert tiffies. I guess it had had small tailplane, probably no desert filter. Will look up in warpaint (cowardly downloaded from net), perhaps over there will be some photo.

Here's my progress on mouth. Spent some effort on puttying and sanding, though might be better... BTW, you can find out, what version this ne will be finished...

And added some plate to blind up the radiator exhaust... As I don't have cutaway handy, I'm not sure about exact shape, nevertheless as a basis to improve look is sufficient...

Slowly getting ahead...

Dry fitting wing...

P1010100.jpg

Filled fuel caps with CA - Though not correct, faster than sanding of and rescribing recessed...

P1010102.jpg

P1010103.jpg

Dry fitting canopy; the hole in front of windshield will have to be filled...

P1010106.jpg

BTW, found some unused tanks from hurricane. I guess, these might be usable on NF I.B.

I guess - these trial typhoons didn't have filter, as certain spits IX (for example Skalski's circus) didn't have as well.

Of course, Tempests VI did have (and, to modeller's delight, significantly added necessary effort to model these).

Last update...

Literally from (cigarette) ashes, see under right wing, typhoon is rising...

BTW, I got taste for Tempest. Unfortunately, I can't decide between Roderick Hill's (Silver paint finish), TT Mk.V, or Mk.VI from Egypt, 1949. Found some old heller moulds in the bottom of kit pile, and getting taste for something tiny to scratch - just about of wing intake, radiator or dust filter size.

If you are planning a desert Typhoon note that they had the tropical filter behind the air intake scoop and were (maybe) coded X, Y and Z - no evidence for one coded "B".

Dessert or night version???

Desert!

Night version!

(Also, your poll is still headed "dessert" - mud and custard pudding maybe (:>)

No, it is not. :tease: It's been just Freud's mistypo - as I thought about nigga, I had in the oven - cocoa cake with cocoa glazing cream on top (As it cools down, on top it develops crust, under which is rich cream, full of butter, sugar, cocoa and eggs).

Oh f__k, I'm salivating again just from the thought... :eat:

BTW - I would be happy to add filter, no single drawing nor photo found so far. :(

Squadron signal aircraft in action has a side colour profile of a Med Typhoon. There is a lousy photo of 2 of the aircraft as well but doesn't show much. It says that three typhoons were used for trials in north africa. They were R8891,DN323 and EJ906. The side view of DN323 has it with no codes just the serial number. It also mentions the tropical filter behind the radiator but no pictures of that but you probably know all this anyway, but your build is looking nice and its gonna look diferent in desert colours. I have the early Canopies from the same kit and want to use them with the academy kit now I know how it works thanx.

Cheers Callum
