maltadefender
For those of you seeking inspiration for the forthcoming GB, or simply interested in the subject, I've just discovered this heroic online effort: Malta GC 70th Anniversary Blog For the last 18 months or so, this chap's been distilling the air and sea operations, official communiques and other sources into a day-by-day recreation of the seige 70 years on. If you want to get a feel for how it all felt day-by-day then look no further I'd have said. Obviously things are rather fast and furious at the moment, as 70 years ago the Luftwaffe was in the middle of its most concerted and damaging offensive period - and would be up until mid-May. It's a massive undertaking, and yes there are a few quibbles here and there - aren't there always? - but you have to applaud the undertaking. It's not a chap, it's a chappess whose dad was in bomb disposal in Malta. She's written an excellent book, "UXB Malta", about the activities of the bomb disposal unit. And it's a cracking good website too. We're off to Malta next week - yippee!

If you get the chance, get over to Gozo after you visit M.A.M. the guys there will tell you about the temp. airstrips that were on the island. One day, maybe, we'll get back. copernicus
Great site - thanks. I'm off to Malta first week in May and was there last year in March. The aviation museum is well worth a visit. I first visited Malta about16 years ago and bought a magazine called Malta Flypast (issue 1) When I was at the museum last year, I was told that the museum (who produce the mag) no longer have a copy of issue no 1 so I intend to donate my copy back to them.
