Sky Models Fiat CR.42 decals

Hello,

I'm looking at doing a CR.42 for the Malta GB but there's a lack of day fighters in the kit-supplied markings of Italeri and Classic Airframes. I've found the Sky Models set 'Fiat CR.42 Part 2' with 40 options on there - but can't find any way to verify if any are of Sicily-based fighters from 1941-42.

Does anyone have the set to confirm please?

All thanks...

Sorry, I've only got Part 1.

If Part 2 is the same then bases are shown but it's not obvious, at least to me, where exactly on a map they all are. Some are easy enough to work out such as those in North Africa and some of the Italian mainland bases, i.e. Ciampino.

It would assist if you knew and could list the bases on Sicily they operated from

Part 1 runs from 1938 to 1946 so it is possible it contains one from the era you're after

Hi Spooky,

I'll be able to dig out info on the airfields this evening but the CR.42 units I'm really looking for are:

1940

17˚Gruppo (71˚, 72˚, 80˚Squadriglia)

157˚Gruppo (384˚, 385˚, 386˚Squadriglia)

1941

17˚Gruppo (71˚, 72˚, 80˚Squadriglia)

Nucleo del 23˚Gruppo C.T. (70˚, 74˚, 75˚Squadriglia)

23˚Gruppo C.T.

171˚Gruppo C.N. ( 301˚, 302˚Squadriglia)

1942

7˚Gruppo (76˚, 86˚, 98˚Squadriglia)

16˚Gruppo (167˚, 168˚, 169˚Squadriglia)

Same here, only have the Part one set.

I do have Osprey's book on CR.42 aces and comparing the colour plates with an image of the decal set, think I found at least one. It has on the fuselage a white lightning bolt/arrow and numbered 385-1. In the book, colour plate caption has it as 157˚Gruppo, , 385˚Squadriglia but located at Trapani-Milo, July 1940.

regards,

Jack

Many thanks both of you - I'm too much of a wuss with rigging to think about a Gladiator, but I'd really like to do a biplane - looks like there's hope that one might be achievable!
