GH05T8
Hi all, I dug this kit out mid last year after a looong break from the hobby. So, after too much data collection I've tried to depict Gunther Prien's drive circa 1939, just out of the water, well in need of a refit. The paint is AB Lifecolor Dunkelgrau 52 down to the waterline and Schiffsbodenfarbe III Gray below, TF99 Faded teerfirnis for the wooden planks. I believe this vanilla kit has a lot of potential if done correctly though. I have done some things well out of scale and I found my scratchbuilding to be a perishable skill. I would attempt this again but for detail sake only in a larger scale. Thanks for looking, ... Justin To me the white base kind of brought out the colours more. Complete with rusty-wobbly-hand-carved sign. I don't fancy drilling and sanding those size holes again! All the lights work and if you squint hard enough the waterline depth markings look like numbers. The ceramic insulators are a bit big, but any is better than none. jimbuna
That's a mighty fine effort...did you handpaint the snorting bull on the conning tower or is it a decal?
GH05T8
Thanks mate, the bull was hand painted with a fine piece of wire. Not too happy with it, but it was quite fiddly. I think if it was a larger scale I would've gone for a decal. Cheers for the kind words, Justin

Will Vale
Looks terrific, particularly the drilled out flooding holes which must've been a labour of love. How did you make the insulators? Will

Will Just wanted to say a quick hello Will. Fellow Kiwi here although I live over the ditch now. Drilling those holes is the only thing putting me off making mine! GH05T8
Cheers Guys, Will : Yes the holes were a huge pain but I used a cheap drill press and saved a little time. Well, that was until i had to turn a round hole into an oval. I stole the idea from the 1/72 scale kits. As for the insulators I nicked them out of my wife's bead box and painted them Tamiya Deck Brown. They could've been bottle green according to some sub boffins Thanks for your kind comments.
