maltadefender
Where did that year go, then? Oh well... I finally cleared the dust and cobwebs off the pair of Airfix Spitfire Mk.IXs that were started for the Spitfire GB last year. I made them to represent two of the Spits used in the TV miniseries made of Piece of Cake, these being NH236 and MH434 painted in their approximation of 1940 Temperate Land Scheme camouflage. Here's a real one: And here's Ray Hanna of course slinging MH434 under the bridge: Everything was simple enough - apart from finding the time to build them! I made my own decals for the small serials carried on the rear of the fuselages of the aircraft in the film. The pilot figures are painted up as Flying Officer 'Moggy' Cattermole in the Sidcot suit flying MH434 and Pilot Officer 'Amanda' Steele-Stebbing in NH236. Well, they were worth the wait for me, and I think I've cleared a blockage in time for the Malta GB!
Sparky
Wow, I love those two models! The finish on both is superb. Did you do the photoshopping for the bridge photo? It looks really good too! I eagerly await your next build. Sparky
Navy Bird
Nice! Really like the photos, can you give us amateurs some tips on the Photoshop techniques? Cheers, Bill
thx6667
I think that's Ray Hanna doing it for real!
maltadefender
Yes sorry all, I thought I'd better put a couple of 1:1 pics on because I'm painfully aware that while 1988 feels like yesterday to me, many accomplished modellers weren't even born at the time and might be wondering why the heck I'd done a pair of Mk.IXs in unconvincing BoB colours! Thanks for the vid Jonathan, always a pleasure to see!

Paul J
Nice pair! I've got the book on the making of the series. The best bit about my copy is that its signed by the late great Ray Hanna and much missed Mark Hanna . Also signatures of Carl schofield and Brian|Smith who also flew in the series. DarenC1
Hi folks This will be my first post on here, so I hope you don't mind me jumping straight into the discussion. If you wanted to be really accurate, Spitfire IX NH238 had four cannons fitted at the time of filming. The first photo shows this aircraft (though not the armament fit). MH434 had two, and these were shorter than in the kit, and also does not have ammunition bulges above the wings. Very nice models all the same, though. And yes, Ray Hanna did the bridge stunt for real...!
