With the MPM/Italeri Sunderlands due out soon, I thought it time to revisit the Airfix Sunderland. With the help of Aviaeology decals, WEM exterior P/E, QuickBoost exhausts and Aeroclub props, it can still be made into a presentable model. This is the second time I've built it - the first was in the late 60's. I think this time, it came out a little better  Inspiration from the Roy Cross artwork on the boxtop, and profiles/photos in the publication "Canada's Aircraft of WWII".

Never build one, always fancied one though and after going on the Hendon Sunderland I might just have to invest!

Nice looking model, thanks for sharing

Lovely build mate.Saw one of these lovely birds many moons ago, when a restored one came over said Sunderland for a farewell flypast,on its way to the US of A. Was a lovely sight as it did a low level flypast up the coast.Everyone just stopped and watched.

That was most likely the Sandringham which now belongs to Kermit Weeks.

(Sandringham is civilian version of Sunderland)

There are no restored Flying Sunderlands unfortuately.

The aircraft now in Week's collection was ex RNZAF and converted

to a Sandringham at Rose Bay, NSW, Australia early 1960's. Went through a few hands

before arriving at Weeks collection.

Nice build, good to see another Sunderland making the rounds. :clap2::wub:

Alan

A great looking build. I've got one here, but it looks like a lot of work so in the stash it seems to stay !!

The old Porkypine looks lovely

I have a soft spot for her because my dad used to fly in Sunderlands from Pembroke Dock before the end of the war. He loved them - so I do!

nice model well made
