albatros1234
if the plane is already completely built the easiest way would be to get an 8 gauge guitar "e" string, then cut the pieces to length and glue each end with ca or pva glue. if the top wing isnt attached yet the easiest way would be to drill holes where the rigging should start and the end has to be drilled all the way thru so you can tension it. one step further would be to manufacture or buy eyelets and micro tube and buckle it up. http://www.austinsms.org/article_seaman.php http://www.cybermodeler.com/tips/rigging.shtml http://www.ww1aircraftmodels.com/page26.html http://www.ww1aircraftmodels.com/page6.html the best ways require prep work, making eyelets, drilling holes etc. if you are already assembled completely you are limited to using the metal wire/guitar string simply glued in place.goodluck
JackFlash
Greetings all; To be brief I drill through the wings at the needed angle before joining them to the model. The when joined I do each strand as needed. I did a large write up step by step on my website and is currently the biggest selling item as a download. http://www.wwi-n-plastic.com/index.php?act...mp;productId=93 It may seem a bit tedious but it makes all the difference when finished. I was building three Sopwith Camels when I wrote this. One F.1 and two 2F.1 types. The SE 5a and Sopwith single seat types always have more rigging than other WWI aircraft it seems. The more you do the better you get at it and on the average it takes two to three session for me to finish rigging a kit. (I try to go slow and be deliberate.) I anchor all needed strands and then invert the model and use wooden spring action clothes pins clipped to the loose ends and when inverted they hang free then I just add drops of glue to the hole and let dry. Then clip the loose end. techno rigging Edited January 11, 2012 by JackFlash
pilot27uk
Cheers guys, I see that monofilament thred is the best stuff to use. Where is the best place to get this stuff? Amazon seem to have some , but they appear to thick for a 1/48 model.
Robert Stuart
Check the EZline discussion in Interwar http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...topic=234908466 Elastic can be easier than monofilament (which I always took to be fishing line - from an angling shop)
487 Squadron
Cheers guys, I see that monofilament thred is the best stuff to use. Where is the best place to get this stuff? Amazon seem to have some , but they appear to thick for a 1/48 model. The best I've found is sold as 'Invisible Mending Thread' at sewing shops. It comes in black (which I prefer) or a silvery colour. EZ line is elastic which helps with tensioning, but there are some ceoncerns about it deteriorating over time. gcn
If you have both wings on then I would either use fishing line ( a smoke coloured 2lb line should suffice) by drilling all the way through the top wing and gluing to the surface of the lower wing. Or I'd get some knit in elastic (poor mans ez line) from ebay and fix according to the instructions on the wnw website. I maybe teaching the art of sucking eggs but the easiest way i've found is to rig the top wing before you fix it to the rest of the model.
