Julien
http://www.google.ie/search?tbm=isch&h...131l810l5.4l9l0 That is a VVA 14 not a Be-14, the Be-14 was a one of varient of the Be-12. http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.sear...inct_entry=true ? So is that! This is a Be-12; The Be-14 was a dedicated ASR version without the MAD boom, they only built one. Julien
Flankerman
Hi,does anyone have pics or links to pics of the one off Be-14? Thanks Julien There are a few B&W - plus a couple of colour photos - and scale plans in a Russian-language book I have on Beriev - part of a 3-book set charting the designs from Beriev. The colour pics show it in a typical grey camo scheme with the number 14 in red on the fuselage sides. This one Edit :- Google found this :- http://img.wp.scn.ru/camms/ar/712/pics/1_3.jpg .... and Amodel do a 1:144 scale kit of it (but the box-art show a MAD boom.... http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/AMU14441 Ken Edited January 7, 2012 by Flankerman
Learstang
If only Amodel would do that and the Be-12 in 1/72nd scale! I suppose a Be-10 Madge in 1/72nd scale injection-moulded is too much to hope for. But hope I will! Regards, Jason

Any idea what colour call out that Grey is? I just got the A Model kit delivered today, its rather nice and still about the same size in 1.144 as say a typhoon in 1.72. Even though they show the MAD boom on the box it is not there on the kit. They give you some kind of life raft canister to hang on the wing pylons as well. Must say a nice kit in 1.144 with a small etch fret, quite good quality plastic. We can dream of 1.72 kits but I can recommend the 1/144 kits. Julien
Sanger's Chaika is only 29 Quid - http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/SAN7216 ........ but it is Sanger Ken I know it sanger, thats what stopped me buying it! and the RHVP are just a bit expensive. Congratulations on that Be-10 its great. I did build the VEB Be-6. One of my most enjoyable builds, not much to the kit but it looks accurate, and impressive when built. These big flying boats are really neglected by the main stream. Julien

I saw your build of it, Ken - very nice! Although the Martin P6M Seamaster is a nice-looking aircraft, somehow I like the Mallow better. If I had the quid, I'd buy the RVHP Chaika. At one time I had the old VEB/Plastikart kit of the Be-6, but I suppose I'll wait until Trumpeter come out with theirs (or Amodel do). Julien, I agree about the boats - Italeri was supposed to do a Sunderland, but where is it? Regards, Jason
Jennings Heilig
Guys, Trumpeter are doing a 1/72 Be-6, so hopefully we may get a Be-12 out of them.Antigrand do a Be-12 but is £100 Sanger do a Vacform, anyone know what its like??? Julien I'd say Amodel is a much more likely bet than Trumpeter. They're doing the Be-6 because the Chinese navy flew them (for decades). China never had a Be-12. I'd kill for a decent non-resin Be-12 kit. Used to see them buzzing around Petropavlovsk Kamchatskij every single day when I was in USAF intel. The Be-6 is the Mallow The Be-6 is the Madge. The Be-10 is the Mallow. Single syllable names for props/turboprops, two syllable names for jets. There was an ingenious system to NATO ASCC naming! Learstang
I b****y did it again! The Be-10 is the Mallow. M is for Maritime, B is for Bomber (Bear - propeller-driven bomber), C is for Cargo (Cossack - jet-powered cargo plane), etc. I know all this, I just can't seem to remember it. Regards, Jason
Flankerman
M is for Maritime, Again, not quite...... M is for 'Miscellaneous' - Mongol (MiG-21UM trainer), Mandrake (Yak-25RV Recce), Mainstay (A-50 AWACS) etc etc. Strange that the Beriev Be-42/A-40 has been given an ASCC (or is it now ASIG?) Reporting Name - Mermaid - and has never entered service But the Beriev Be-200 - which is in service with the quasi-military MChS - has not (AFAIK?) Another strange anomaly with the ASCC naming system is the Czech Aero L-39 'Albatros' - in widespead Soviet and Russian service, but never got an 'M' name Its predecessor - the Aero L-29 'Delfin' did (Maya). Learstang
All right, back to the Great Patriotic War for me, where the Soviet aeroplanes didn't have any b****y NATO names (at least during WWII) to worry about! Regards, Jason
