USS Olympia 1:232 Update Sets

The Encore brand is dedicated to limited reissues of previously released kit plastic with various mixed-media upgrades and corrections. This is their first ship model using this formula. In the case of Olympia’s curtain call (standard edition EC80001 and premium edition EC85001), based upon the now venerable Revell tool in 1/232 scale model that was originally issued in 1959. Despite its age, this design still has considerable merit, and is the best large-scale representation of the vessel available in injection-molded plastic.

Both standard and premium editions will include the same extensive photo-etch detail sets which enhance the ship’s detail from bilge keels to fighting tops and bow crest to stern crest. Additionally, both boxings include:

• printed paper flag sheet – including 45-star ensigns, jack and Dewey’s command pennants
  
• brass anchor chain
  
• resin parts – including a corrected elliptical bow torpedo aperture, stern torpedo aperture (not represented in the kit), hull block to correct upper rudder contour and improved screws.
  

Exclusive to the premium edition:

• An excellent set of thin, self-adhesive, laser-cut, real wood veneers for all exposed decks
  
• turned metal gun barrels for the ship’s 8” 35 cal Mark 4 rifles (4 each), 5” 40 cal secondary battery (10 each) and 6-pounder rapid fire weapons (14 each)
  
• wood display base with brass nameplate and pedestals
  

All metal and wood element are manufactured by KA Model from South Korea; the resin parts are cast by True Details in Texas. As implied, the plastic is sourced directly from Revell and is molded in Illinois. The standard edition kit (EC80001) will retail at $59.99 and the premium edition (EC85001) at $99.99.
