Mark,

Are those highlighted genuinely new tools or re-pops, don't get me wrong nobody will be more pleased than me if they are but I'm a little surprised at the choices - the Mustang, Bf-109E and especially the MiG-29 aren't amongst Airfix's longest-in-the-tooth moulds, unlike the Skyhawk!

I wonder if the Skyhawk is appearing to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War? :hmmm:

The Swordfish comes as no surprise but the Spitfire 22 - now that pleases me greatly :yahoo:

I do hope the Mustang, Bf-109E, Skyhawk and MiG-29 are new moulds - but I'm not holding my breath!

Fantastic if the Mig-29 is a new tooling. The current Airfix Mig-29 is a real pig to build, but it turns into (probably) the most accurate in that scale. Just one other thing - isn't the recent Valiant already a B.Mk1? If so, why tool a new sprue set for it? Did you mean B.2 Pathfinder? If so then woo-hoo!

Nice to see the old Chippy being re-released.

Unlikely!

I think it's the parts to make the PR/K versions - a B.2 Pathfinder is a bit limited don't you think whereas the PR/K version opens up many more markings options.

The MiG-29 is the old tool with new decals.

The Valiant parts are to convert the bomber kit to a PR or Tanker variant. Decals are also included.

Hi Mark,

Mmmm- piccies of a Meteor Boxing? Which mark is it please? Sounds interesting :hmmm:

Belated Happy Xmas & al the best for 2012

Regards Adrian.

It's the F.8. Rebox of the MPM kit and only available to Airfix club members.

Not surprised at all about a new mustang ! I'm 99% sure it was one of the types I said I'd have bet a few quid on. The Me-109 is probably the least needed (ICM does a very nice one and it's cheap enough too) but still I can see this will be a good seller.

I'm very happy to see a new skyhawk, wonder what version will it be ? There are at least 3 main skyhawk families (B/C, E/F, M) and it's not easy to convert one into the other. (Edited: read now it's a B, very good !)

The Spitfire 22 is also something I'm very glad to see. I just hope that at least Airfix will get the 2-stage griffon engine nose right !!!!!!!!!!

Trumpy have announced 72 Skyhawks for next year too, never rains, eh?

Wasn't it Hobbyboss ?, but they are the E/F/M versions whilst Airfix is doing the B aka P/Q for the Argentine versions.

Got my calendar/magazine/catalogue pack this morning - also some interesting humbrol paint stuff too. They seem to have added a whole bunch of RLM colours in enamel and have a few others too like weathering powders...

Any chance of some more info on the new paints? Do they list them simply by Humbrol No. or RLM No or both? Any mention of sets? I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see a return to the concept of the old Humbrol Authentics, as long as they are properly researched.

Steve.

all sounds very interesting, wonder what the Valiant bits will go for, also fancy the Tucano, wanted one for a while, had one some time back buggered it up, it flew to bin, then couldn't get one doh!

Overall, I'd say it's all a bit of a non event. Apart from the Gnat, Valiant & Skyhawk, there's nothing there new or retooled to tempt me to spend my hard earned. I'm personally disappointed to see yet more done to death already subjects like Spitfires, Mustangs & BF-109s but, I'm enough of a realist to understand the obvious commercial reasoning behind those releases. Sorry Airfix but, you won't be getting much out of me in 2012!!

Guess I must be getting fussy in my old age. Just as well I've got a stack of re-releases to work on!!

What is nice is the catalog calls out the new tooling versions vs reissued versions.

Interesting to see the move to photoetch on some kits too - is that a first for Airfix?

The Tuccano and Chipmunk are on my list...

Not completely: Airfix issued a few kits with PE and metal parts in the past under the Hi Tech range. The 1993 catalogue shows the 1/72 harrier GR.7, tornado, Mig-29 and F-15 and the 1/48 spitfire V.

At the same time Heller (that was under the same property) issued the 1/72 Mig-29 and su-27 twin seaters and the 1/48 Rafale A, Mirage III and stuka under a similar range.

Both brands marketed the 1/72 aircraft weapons set.

Some nice interesting stuff there then - another BF 109 to come on the scene but one of them has Bulgarian markings, so they could be useful; I like the look of the Seafire Mk 22 in 1/72 and the re released Dauntless would be useful.

All we need now is release dates :D Would they be issued with the official January 3rd announcement?

I do vaguely remember the hi-tech range but don't think I ever owned one of those kits. Good catch.
