Procopius
I'm going to be picking up a Hasegawa "Spitfires against Japan" set in the next month or two, as I greatly enjoyed building it the first go-'round. Is there a good set of decals for Clive "Killer" Caldwell's Spitfire VIII, or for one of the shark-mouthed Spitfires available out there?
Ed Russell
Spitfire VIII, or for one of the shark-mouthed Spitfires available out there? It's perhaps a bit over the top for what you want but the Kagero decal-book has a couple of shark mouth options. http://www.hyperscale.com/2011/reviews/boo...kreviewrk_1.htm Perhaps only a little less over the top but... you could get the CMR RAAF Mk VIII boxing which will give you Caldwell's and several other nice options - I know, as I helped choose them! http://www.hyperscale.com/2008/reviews/kit...9reviewgp_1.htm

Ed Russell
appears to lack the shark-mouths Look more closely at the ZP coded ones in the review difficult to explain to my wife. New model? (Just kidding) You might be able to pick up the Frog "VIII/IX" kit very cheaply - it has a RAAF shark mouth in some boxings http://www.collectorholics.com/spitfire-mk...war-collectible
Forlornhope
Sadly the Kagero appears to lack the shark-mouths, and the CMR route seems like it would be difficult to explain to my wife. There is the Almark 1/72 VIII and IX 'Victory in sight " decals I got mine through Hannants then ,not having a wife to deal with, bought the cmr kit anyway so now have 2 sets neither have Cadwells but both have the shark mouth. Almark have RG-V and ZP-Y. I can't remember how much they were though but weren't expensive, but if you can't find them you are more than welcome to get my almark set if we can work it out through the site (Don't supose you have a set of early style underwing Hurricane roundels in 1/72 spare do you?)I'd post a photo of them but have no idea how to post an image here keeps saying my link is wrong. Procopius
Look more closely at the ZP coded ones in the review I was going by the review's "sadly, neither this machine nor the other shark mouthed one below are depicted on the decal sheet", but is that incorrect? Forlornhope, I've sent you a PM.

Ahhh... you may well be right there and I was misinformed. I don't have the decals. Edit - You are right, sorta false advertising from Kagero. ‘ZP-Z’ of No 457 Sqn has no sharkmouth Edited December 27, 2011 by Ed Russell
Giorgio N
As I have the Kagero book and decal sheet, I can unfortunately confirm that no sharkmouthed option is available on the sheet, although two options are shown in the book. The cheapest way to get Caldwell decals is to buy thePropagteam that has a small sheet covering only Caldwell's Spit VIII http://www.propagteam.cz/decal_en_dcs172.asp?detail=30 Another cheap option comes from the Kopro decal sheet: it's the same included in one of the KP/Kopro spitfire VIII boxes and can be see here: http://www.hobbyshop.cz/shop/1-72-decals/5...1-72-decal.html It can be bought in several on-line eastern europe shops. Ventura had a sheet (72-01) that contained a sharkmouthed VIII, can't remember which one though. The 1/48 sheet has both an early and late style sharkmouth, but this only has Spitfire VIIIs, while the 1/72 sheet has both Mk.VIII and Mk.V. The Ventura 1/72 kit contained decals for a small sharmouth aircraft

stevehnz
If you're still keen on some Spitfire Sharkmouth decals you could try THESE I think they made by Ventura. Steve.
Ed Russell
I think they made by Ventura. Indeed they are Ventura decals. Jays purchased the Ventura company a while ago and have a variety of decals for Spitfire lovers. http://www.jaysmodelkits.com/jaysmk/index....gfr5qcqmbrh4056

Giorgio N
If you're still keen on some Spitfire Sharkmouth decals you could try THESE I think they made by Ventura.Steve. That is the same decal sheet included in their Australian Mk.VIII kit. I have the sheet and I find that a very good looking subject, the earlier small sharkmouth is IMHO nicer than the later bigger one. Must also say that the quality of these decals was variable, with some showing the ink didn't all stay where it was supposed to be... Is there a good set of decals for Clive "Killer" Caldwell's Spitfire VIII, or for one of the shark-mouthed Spitfires available out there? If you can find them, Ventura V7201 offers two Mk5 schemes for Clive Caldwell's aircraft, plus several other RAAF schemes, including ZP-G and ZP-Z, both shark-mouth Mk8s of 457 squadron. Almark sheet C9,"Victory In Sight" offers two shark-mouth aircraft, ZP-V and RG-V. Some of these may be available on the net, but watch out for "rip-off" prices. Good hunting, Bill. Greenshirt
Aeromaster sheet 72-141 has A58-614/ZP Q, "Grey Nurse" with a shark mouth. They show up on eBay occasionally. Tim
Procopius
While there's such a high concentration of people who know more than I (actually, such things can be found virtually anywhere anytime two or more are gathered), was there actually a "Grey Moose" Spitfire VIII? My copy of Morgan and Shacklady has a photo on page 286 captioned: "A pair of Mk VIIIs of No.457 Sqdn, RAAF. Nearest aircraft was A58-614 and named Grey Moose." I've always assumed this was a typo or a misreading, but if not, how delightful!

Giorgio N
All 457 Sqn. RAAF Spitfire VIIIs carried the "grey nurse" titles, the picture is miscaptioned. The Grey Nurse Squadron was a nickname for 457 Sqn after they received the Mk.VIII. The grey nurse is a type of shark, hence the sharkmouths painted on the unit spitfires. warhawk
Don-t wanna start a new thread, but does anyone have extra Hasegawa 1/72 decals for this bird (No.155sqn)? I need those decals for my Airfix spit IX, which will be converted into VIII Edited December 29, 2011 by warhawk
