hacker
I start this kit as a commission build. The plan was to just to build OOB but l was not satisfied with some of the kits parts. The kit is basically the old Monogram AH-64A with an extra sprue covering the parts needed for the D version. The instrument panel though having a glass cockpit lack details (basically blocks representing the screens. The cockpit is still the basic A version which needed updating to the D. Taking a page out of Skii book on his 1/32 l decided to scratch build a new cockpit using some PE parts from Eduard plus some of this and that here is the work I have done so far on the cockpit. l am not done just yet as I still have some for things to do to it yet comparison to the new cockpit with an old Monogram kit I have that needs to be rebuild here is the new instrument panel. The screens are from a 1/32 scale Tamiya F-15E kit. The smaller screens work great here. The trick was how to get the screens with out ruining the kit part. Answer, make a mold of the part and cut out what l needed. This is what l have so far. As always criticisms welcome only with beer provided Edited May 13, 2012 by hacker

Parabat
Wow, like the idea of casting off the F-15 part. A bit beyond my skill level, but something to think of. Will be good to see this unfold, cracking start thus far.

hacker
"he who is without sin may do his first casting" Boy l must be very sinful as my first exercise in casting is a complete failure Now l have a dilemma, do l try to get someone else to cast it or do l just forget it and finish the build ? As for the resin l can not remember who said that Alumilite is crap was very right though l will finish what l have so l do not was my money. May go with some other brand. So now l seek advice from gurus of resin casting as to what to do next? Anyways going to celebrate my first New Years with the Missus so Happy New Years guys and talk to you later
hacker
Well I put in some time working on this and here is the results When I tried to make of mold of this cockpit I damaged it just a tad but as fate would have it some heavier foil came into my possession thanks to a couple of wine bottles from New years. So I took the thinner stuff off and used the thicker foil with better looking results in the end I redid the seats with some textured foil from a Kraft peanut butter jar and some Eduard photo edged seat belts I then painted the seats first with a coat of aircraft interior black then painted the seat cushions tamiya black green and the belts olive green. The instrument panels were painted and detailed as well The cockpit was also painted aircraft interior black then detailed I could not help myself but to dry fit all the cockpit parts in just to see how the fit and look. To me it looks great but I am biased Comments welcomed but bring beer ok on over to my 109E build later

hacker
While working on my Emil I been working also on the Apache. I got all the major cockpit components in and glued in as I must say it is coming out better then I had hoped for The last job of the day I installed the cockpit then glued the fuselage halves together. This will be about all I can accomplish for now as it is back to another work week later

hacker
While l was working on my Bf-109E l also been working on my Apache. I found the new under fuselage part does not fit the old Monogram Apache very well so out comes the sand paper and the filler until l got looking right. Of course during the process of sanding and filling l lost some of the molded in details but l had the present of mind to order the Eduard PE set for the Hasegawa kit that helped with the recovery of those details plus some l made from thin brass sheet. Also l put on some of the detail parts l needed for the WAH-64D version. At this point l have not put the engine pods on yet as l want to prime the fuselage to check some of my work plus the engine pods need work here is a picture of what the engine exhaust should look like The engine pod on the left is one from an old "A" version l got kicking around, the center is showing the thin plastic pieces covering the old exhaust holes and the one on the right has the PE exhaust from the Eduard set. have not decide to risk cutting out the center or just leave it and paint it black which would do the same but just with out depth. I had to do a lot of sanding on these parts as well so eventually they will be primed and checked before l install them on the Apache. Almost there with this one as well. Hopefully l can get more done this weekend then l have in the last few. That is all for now later
hacker
while working on my Bf 109E I have also made progress on the Apache as well. l had to mask the inside and out side of the canopy and doors. The outside was done first as it had the ridges for the framing on it as a guide then did the inside using the outside masking as a guide also Everything is now ready for the paint shop. I am hoping to put a coat of paint on it before l leave here to go to Easter supper with the family. Dinner has a special twist to it as the wife and I are going to tell everyone she is now just about 3 months pregnant so that take precedence over paint Later guys happy Easter
hacker
Well l managed to get a coat of paint on the Apache before l left but once l got back l seen a few spots l missed but l took care of that. Figure l could manage one more update before calling it a night l think it is turn out rather better then l had hoped for. later

hacker
Been working on the Apache as well as the Emil. Got a bit of touch up here and there but nothing major. I have to finish assembling the tail rotors plus add the transmission parts to the front of the engine and then l can move on to the weapons. I know l am a bit slow at this but l would like to avoid mistakes if l can. I have to decide whether to use the PE rocket fins for the Hellfires or go with the molded on ones. I also have to tackle yet the task of making the domed ends for the rocket tubes as they are different then the US Army version.
