Shaun Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 (edited) Has anyone got some close up photo's of the rectangle shaped intake/exhaust vents on the upper fuselage of the Harrier just ahead of the wing. Wondering what is down inside the holes? Shaun Edited December 20, 2011 by Shaun
SaintsPhil Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Shaun, Have you got the book harrier inside and out? Page 57 and 58 have great shots of the engine covers open and you can clearly see one of the 2 (APU exhaust I assume). Drop me a PM in you don't have the book! Phil
xffw45343tg Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Phil is spot on. The forward one is the gas turbine starter exhaust (no mesh) and the aft starboard side is the intake (protected by mesh). The aft facing vent ahead of the GTS intake is cooling for the APU.
ChocksAway Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Shaun Like this ...? (got more if you need them Shaun) These are on ZG506 on Ark Royal before she got her retro camouflage scheme.

Thanks for the pic, NG899 has also been in touch and explained the area in question. Bad case of orange peel on the Harrier model in your pic, Graham Shaun.
ChocksAway Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Shaun That's no model, that's the real McCoy. Having said that, it could easily have been one of my paint jobs!
