hacker
l am working on a Revell WAH 64D apache and the colour for the rotors calls for #9 matt Anthracite Grey. The kit was a German Revell boxing so obviously a Revell colour. But what l have says #9 is Coal Black which could be the same or not l just do not know. Can anyone shed some light on this or come up with an alternative colour in another range?
Giorgio N
Can't help with the proper colour for the Apache blades, however Revell suggest #9 whenever a grey/black finish is required. So depending on the part, you might replace it with a proper black or a very-very-very-very dark grey, like for example tamiya NATO Black. Alternatively just add a couple of drops of grey to any black, just to take some of the "blackness" off the paint
pte1643
I'm not familiar with the Revell paint range, or the Apache really, so can't help specifically. But... At the risk of teaching you to suck eggs (not the intention) Anthracite is a form of Coal, so it would fit that they are the same colour (Very Dark Grey). pigsty
Anthracite is, of course, a type of coal, so anthracite grey ought to be at least close to coal black(!). The IPMS Stockholm conversion charts are still pretty handy. However, for this they recommend Humbrol 85 for Revell 9; Hu85 is satin black and is a true black. So I'd agree with Giorgio - you need a very deep grey. Hu32 is a good one. Edited December 15, 2011 by pigsty
Nick Millman
Revell # 9 Anthracite is matched to RAL 7021 Schwarzgrau (black grey). FS 37038 is close but does not have the slight blue hue of 7021. Humbrol 85 is supposed to match FS 27038 but is of course satin finish and pure black. The actual Apache blades are reported to be "flat matt black". I reckon 33 with a touch of white should be ok.
e8n2
According to Army Tech Manual TM 55-1500-345-23, the rotor blades on U.S. Army helicopters is FS 37038, flat black. Later, Dave Edited December 19, 2011 by e8n2
Julien
Try this link http://www.paint4models.com/ If its one thing I could change about revell it would be getting them to use normal paint colours, but then they never will as they are selling their own paint.
