Dave Fleming
One of the nice things is that the IWM pictures enable many of us to see better quality copies of photos already published. http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205126696 Mohawk Mark IV, BJ442, on the ground at Burtonwood, Lancashire, where it was employed in defence of the airfield following its assembly there, November 1940. This aircraft was one of a number of Hawk 75A-4s originally ordered for the French Air Force, which were taken over by the RAF following the collapse of France. In 1942, BJ442 was delivered to India for service with No. 155 Squadron RAF. http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205208165 Mohawk Mark IV, BK585, running up its engine prior to giving a flying demonstration at the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment, Boscombe Down, Wiltshire. BK585 joined No. 5 Squadron RAF in the Far East later in 1941. Early 1941 I think - note the black underwing! http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205126697 Mohawk Mark IV, AR645, on the ground at the Air Service Training Ltd works, Hamble Hampshire, shortly before being flown to the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment at Boscombe Down, Wiltshire, for handling trials. http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205209729 Flying Officer T H Meyer of No. 155 Squadron RAF, preparing to take off on a sortie from Imphal, Burma, in Curtiss Mohawk Mark IV, BS374 "Joe Soap II", with 20-lb fragmentation bombs loaded underneath the wings. brewerjerry
Hi, I hope the IWM keeps doing this, I am trying to copy as many to my hard drive as possible, just incase something messes it up and they take them all down. cheers Jerry Edited December 7, 2011 by brewerjerry
