jaw
Good morning, I would welcome some advice on VC10s please. I saw that most useful advice on the recent topic about the VC10 K4 conversion. I want to do a standard VC10 C1 or C1K - my question is do these have the extended wing leading edges and uprated Conway engines? My reason for asking is not to doubt the earlier advice but I took some photos of XV106 at the Biggin Hill Airshow last year, both in the air and on the ground, and it is not immediately clear whether it has the extended leading egdes or not. Thanks for your help. John

jenshb
The VC-10 C.1s built for the RAF all had the Standard fuselage combined with the Super wing and engines AFAIK. Must have been quite a hot ship when lightly loaded... Jens

John The leading edge is an interesting question - I'd always beleived they had the 'Super' l/e, but VC10derness suggets it was 'similar' to the Super one: http://www.vc10.net/History/RAFVC10s.html
Jennings Heilig
The leading edge is an interesting question - I'd always beleived they had the 'Super' l/e, but VC10derness suggets it was 'similar' to the Super one:http://www.vc10.net/History/RAFVC10s.html Externally it is indistinguishable, especially at the scale of a plastic model kit. Just a slight change in the airfoil profile is all. The planform is exactly the same as the Super wing. And yes, they were VERY hot ships when lightly loaded. Glen
They certainly were - good fun too. Had a few Jag guys on a light 10 one day. The skipper was ex Jags and determined to show what a proper take off was like!! Unlike most airliners (which are all pretty hot when light), the 10 could be rotated straight to a steep pitch attitude without worrying about scraping the fuselage so could climb steeply straight of the ground. kev67
As I am doing the Anigrand VC10 CIK there some points that I have been told the C1K only has wing refuelling tanks rather than the central tank, the window arrangement is different as well, there other stuff but cannot remember
