hood, frakly I don't have a clue - maybe it has something to do with hydrodynamics or acoustics... or maybe it's just because from time to time, Russians do it opposite way :D

F-32: It's pretty much the same lengthwise but much narrower - Typhoon is much much fatter. However the improved Borei class (I think last 4 subs of this class) will have 4 additional launchers (20) which will make them the longest subs in history...

I assumed the metal work was a pier or something in the background that because of perspective seemd to be affixed to the sub...
