AndyC
I am (sort of) committing myself to trying to complete the ancient Matchbox A-1E Skyraider but it has a clear one-piece canopy for front and rear offices and the real jobs had a blue-tinted rear part. Anyone have a siggestion to tint the canopy? My thoughts currently involve blue ink and Klear/Future mixed and sprayed/brushed? Any help would be appreciated as the kit (even though it's a dog anyway) needs the tinted canopies to even start to look realistic Thanks in advance Andy
bentwaters81tfw
I have to tint an F16 canopy. My plans are food dye in Klear, then dip the canopy.
AndyC
Hmmm I like that better than the ink theory...have you ever tried this before? Andy
Giorgio N
The use of food dye in klear is something I've never done but I've seen this done by others with very good results. Alternatively tamiya has some clear paints that can be airbrushed on.
AndyC
Alternatively tamiya has some clear paints that can be airbrushed on. That is so obvious! Why didn't I think of their clear paints? Andy Edited November 28, 2011 by AndyC
Navy Bird
I always use the Gunze clear paints. How dark the tint ends up depends on how many coats you put on. Cheers, Bill

arnobiz
To be on the safe side I would suggest you thin the clear paint with Future: it will give you more control on the darkness of the windows. That's how I do my Tomcats front canopy window. Arnaud

Paul Wagner
To be on the safe side I would suggest you thin the clear paint with Future: it will give you more control on the darkness of the windows. I was going to suggest that too. It also mean you can peel it all off if it goes pear shaped. I'd even suggest Future the canopy, then tint some Future and use that as the medium. I'll be interested in how it works out - I've got the same kit sitting on the shelf, and since I can't fins a Hasegawa one for love nor money, It's what I'm stuck with Paul
baldrick
Tamiya clear works great, been using it for years without any problems.
