Iain Ogilvie
secured permission to place a 'tank' on the land, although the council thought he meant one of the 'septic' variety and the tank has remained in the same spot for the last thirteen years, with, if local rumour is to be believed, its gun barrel deliberately aimed toward the council offices. Wonderful! Iain Edited November 27, 2011 by Iain (32SIG)

pigsty
Wish someone had bought me a tank for my seventh birthday. Although, come to think of it, I'd be nearly as happy with getting one for my forty-seventh ... Southwark Town Hall is just about due south of the tank, whose barrel is pointing roughly north-west (you can see it clearly on Google Earth!). The first notable landmark in that direction is the Royal Courts of Justice, which are probably within range. This may not seem the most obvious target but then there was the bloke in Croydon with the pink Abbot. Between hiring it out for gay pride marches, he used to delight in driving it up to central London just to wind people up - legal to drive on the road, impossible to clamp it, etc. And all because of a planning dispute with Croydon Council. pigsty
I have actually seen a T-34 being used as a toy. I was out for a wander one day and heard this almighty crash. Having been near an IRA bomb going off, which I mistook for someone dropping a girder, I reasoned (there being no obvious bomb threat to rural Surrey) that someone had actually dropped a girder. Then it dawned on me that there was no building work anywhere near by, at which point I heard another almighty crash - and, obviously, carried on walking towards it. Then in the woods I came across a Czech-built T-34/85 with a load of kids crawling over it and several burly, unfriendly blokes in suits standing nearby and scowling. Turns out it was the 8th birthday of one of Roman Abramovich's brood, and his treat was to spend the afternoon playing in the woods with a tank, which was firing a blank shell every now and again. There's actually someone down there who has a few and hires them out for things like this. And, happily, I got to crawl over the tank too, which was nice. Nomad
There's a T34/85 by the side of the road in a village called Fromes Hill in Herefordshire, if you look for it on Google Maps you can zoom in on the Wheatsheaf Inn on the A4103 on streetview for a 'walkround'. Don't know if it's still there though, as the Google images are a couple of years old now. I got a good set of pics when I happened accross it on my way to collect a new dog a couple of years ago.
