Colin W
Hi there, This is my first posting here in Maritime as I'm more usually in Cold War Aircraft. However, when this kit came out from good old Airfix I knew one day I'd give it a bash. The problem is that I rarely saw one for sale and when I did there was always a reason why not to buy it. I have never seen one made up either so maybe they are rare? Anyway at Yeovilton in October I found one on a club display and brought it home. I opened the box for a little poke around and next thing it was 3 hours later, wife had gone to bed and I was on step 5 of the instructions. I basically built it in 3 weeks with most of the time dedicated to detail painting and getting it 'right'. I am used to a bit of detail painting around a cockpit but here the intricacy of the thing precluded a lot of airbrush work and I did more brush painting than I have for a while. I did plan some in process pics and entering the Emergency Group Build but it was so much fun and so interesting I never got round to any pictures before it was finished. The only bad bits were the cabin side windows which are badly moulded and about as transparent as bubble wrap. I wrote to Airfix for some new ones which arrived within 24 hours of me sending the email(!) but the replacements were no better. Normally I would have made some clear ones from acetate but I decided to press on. All is basically from the box other than the 2 aerials which are replaced with wire. The hull stripes were painted on as the decals looked a bit harder to fit. Hope you like it. I hope you enjoy it along side the more illustrious models you guys usually post on here. Cheers Colin W

mick b
Well done Colin, you dont see many built as I've read they are pretty tricky to construct, especially the interior of the superstructure but you have done a stonking job! Mick

savage_express87
i did one of these... my only issue was the paint.. it was from revell,.. it was gloopy and very stringy and made it look S**t .. :/ .. annoyance .... i have a 1.72 corvette and a corvette refurb/sustom witch are splended, i do try avoiding this paint now, but it does come in handy on my models for life rings only... but this is stunning! ... something to be dead proud of to say the least... i hope next time round i do one (as i dont own it anymore) will be nice also
