Azgaron
This is my 2nd 90mm figure, and started after Swedish officer, but for some reason I've come further with this one. Not much parts, which makes it a bit easier to assemble. First I cleaned it up, removing all mold lines and the area between the legs. The arm was pinned. and glued. After some thought, I placed Sherlock slightly behind the center of the base, using some color to mark the placement. Mounted. and primed. Next, I'll start to paint him, and I'll try and paint the deer-stalker and Inverness cape in a plaid pattern. Cheers, Håkan
jacksdad
Hi Hakan. As a Sherlockian I will be watching this one with interest. Are you going to attempt a pattern on the cape? Steve
Azgaron
Hi Steve, Yes, that's my intention to do pattern on the cape. If I succed or not, remains to be seen! I had planned to start painting yesterday, but it seems like it has to wait until the weekend. Cheers, Håkan
Azgaron
I had a shot at painting the face the other day. The hardest part was the eyes, which at least one needs to be corrected a bit. I'm not done, but here is how it's looks now. Right now I'm redecorating my hobby room, so I can't do anything until I'm done. Kallisti
I heard that the company that produces tartan paint has branched out into doing plaid and pinstripe paint.

Paul RH
Looking good. Eyes are the most difficult thing to paint but you´ve done a good job on them

Niall
One tip on painting eyes that I learned several years ago is to paint 1 with the figure the right way up then to invert the figure to paint the other eye. It sound insane but it does work. On painting patterns, have you thought about drawing it on your PC and printing on inkjet transfer film then applying the transfers to the figure? I did this for the planked areas on my Revell Flower class model -
Azgaron
Thanks for the tip Niall! I'll try it! Printing pattern on a transfer film sounds like a good idea. Cheers, Håkan
jacksdad
EYE FOUND THEM! Sorry, I couldn't resist it. I had a vague recollection of someone doing scale eye decals and I've found these:- http://www.milminwh.com/archer_eye.htm Although it's a U.S. site I'm sure someone in the U.K. will be able to get these from Archer. Hope this is usefull. Steve
Azgaron
Thanks for the tip Steve! I actually got a tip about these decals a little while ago on a Swedish forum, and the guy who told me sells them too! I've thought about buying some when I put my next order. jacksdad
Thanks for the tip Steve!Cheers, Håkan Your welcome. It certainly beats squinting and sticking your tongue out trying to get a good iris. Steve
jacksdad
By the way, In the books his Inverness was grey.
Azgaron
Not to talk about trying to paint the pupils too. I guessed as much, and if I don't recall wrong Jeremy Brett also had a grey Inverness when doing his interpretation. I'm still thinking of doing plaid as I think the figure looks more like the classic but slightly wrong interpretation. Cheers, Håkan
Azgaron
I got some more paint on. I've tried to correct his eye, but it didn't turn out as good as I've hoped. I'll see if I can sort it out. Cheers, Håkan
