SaintsPhil
Hi all, SWMBO and I are off to London for the day on Saturday, in between Xmas shopping and general touristy things I thought I might 'treat' her to a trip to a shop or 2 I'm interested in! Can any one make any recommendations for good old fashioned model shops? I've googled and get the usual suspects! Thanks Phil
pigsty
The reason you get the usual suspects, I'm afraid, is that that's all there is. Muddlezone on High Holborn isn't a bad example of the breed and is the best there is inside Zone 1. If your aim is to take in the sights as well, you'll probably not have time to get to Comet Miniatures, which would be the closest one that I'd actually recommend. SaintsPhil
I feared that may be the case! I might drag her to imperial war museum, any close to there?
Harry Lime
I feared that may be the case! I might drag her to imperial war museum, any close to there? Drag her to the RAF Museum at Hendon instead and you'll find Hannants London shop just round the corner! LU Northern Line to Colindale should get you there no problem. Mark. If you go into the Ian Allan Bookshop on Lower Marsh (near the Old Vic and Waterloo Station) they may have the odd scrap, but they concentrate on railways. Hendon has its attractions but is a minimum of 45 minutes each way when you include the walk at the Colindale end (unless you get very lucky with a bus). West Drayton is also a bit of a hike - up to Paddington and get the slow Reading train, although the shop is very convenient for the station. SaintsPhil
Thanks gents! Might pop into modelzone then, as for the other guess I'll have to wait until I'm by myself as I doubt I'll swing those journeys! Phil
Giorgio N
While it's true that Ian Allan's bookshop focuses on railways, Motorbooks has a good selection of books on aircrafts and other things that are usually of interest to the typical Britmodeller and is not that far away from the main attractions: http://www.motorbooks.co.uk/locations.asp I always pop in any time I'm in central London. Some of the second hand/bargain bookshops in the area can also have some interesting titles. Edited November 23, 2011 by Giorgio N
