SaintsPhil
Hi all, I'm hoping the britmodeller community can help me diagnose my airbrush problem! I'm really struggling to get my airbrush to spray properly, especially fine lines. I know it's not blocked, at least the nozzle and air cup aren't as I've checked under magnification. When I spray it sprays ok but the jet is not uniform, it seems to only come out part of the nozzle. I can see this with water in a light. When I try and spray fine lines I get a line ok but with overspray. I know the paints thinned as I use Vallejo model air plus I added thinner until it started to split the paint! It almost feels like theres not enough air coming though if that makes sense? I've turned up to 30 psi and still get the issue. I have managed to spray fine lines ok in the past with the same paint. One odd thing I've noticed is that I get bubbles from the trigger while spraying! Also if I dip the tip in water without touching the trigger I get bubbles. I suspect the front seal may have gone BUT could it be something else? Anyone else had this issue? Sorry I've rambled a bit but hopefully someone can help!! denstore
Can be one or several problems. The uneven jet sounds like a fractured nozzle. The bubbling close to the trigger sounds like broken airvalve or the seals for it.
Abacus
Was going to say damaged needle/nozzle but also sounds like a problem with your valve as well. Worn/fouled washer perhaps? Sorry, ignore, answered above. Edited November 15, 2011 by abacus

Frustratedly Phil Hi Phil, I have dealt recently with The Airbrush Company in Lancing (personal visits actually as I live near) and I have found them very helpful. They overhauled my DeVilbiss Sprite Major which is now 30+ years old. Give them a try, they have a full time engineer on site who has all sorts of spares to hand, maybe for your 'brush whatever it is. Cheers, Nigerecommended! Frustratedly Phil Hi Phil It sounds to me like a split needle. It can be very hard to see but a hairline split will create overspray and bubbles. SaintsPhil
Thanks, I've recently replaced both needle and nozzle so I have ruled them out for now! I have ordered a set of replacement seals, for both the air cap and air valve so fingers crossed that's it! In hoping the issue with the nozzle is related to reduced pressure, due to the air leaking from the air valve and air cup. Phil
little-cars
Hi Phil, Your first point of call should be the dealer that you bought the brush off. If it was me, please get in touch, or if you are going to the Bath show this weekend, bring it down with you. It sounds like the main problem is the air delivery. Have you changed/moved anything in the air valve? If you remove the air valve, is the teflon o ring still on top ? On the spray pattern, if the air cap and nozzle are perfect, then check the needle. If you have a two in one set, it could be that you have a mis matched needle, nozzle, air cap set. Paul
