billybigbananas Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 (edited) I bought this kit in the great Nimrod sale of 2010, when every trader & his dog was punting them out for under £20. As a rattle can abuser I already knew I wouldn't be doing a hemp scheme, so I started looking at MR1 white/grey schemes - then I saw the MDA sheet with 148 on it. Now when I started, I didn't quite realise how much extra work this would entail - particularly as I'm usually an out of the box kit assembling type. I also didn't realise, until I started researching, just how little info is out there on this rather striking aeroplane. I must therefore thank the good folks on this forum who gave me much needed advice and in particular Martin Painter who is currently doing an amazing restoration job on the cockpit section of the real thing. He very patiently answered my queries and without him the finished article would be even more spurious in terms of accuracy than it is now (more than one window got drilled out/deleted/re-instated during the course of this build)! I used the Eduard exterior set which I found very useful and paints were a mixture of Halfords & Tamiya rattle cans. The MDA decals went on a treat but the Airfix ones were a total pain in the bottom. Overall I'm very pleased with it & regard it as a significant step forward in terms of my modelling ability - still a long way to go but hey! tommyinuk0 Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 (edited) Wow great work that's a lovely scheme you chose. It looks a stunning model. I have one to be built from the same sale period, this may push me to start it. Tommy Edited November 8, 2011 by tommyinuk0

canberraman Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 A cracking build and a refreshing change from the more familiar RAF liveries. Your rattle can skills are of the highest order - well done! Mark

billybigbananas Posted November 9, 2011 Author Posted November 9, 2011 Nice work, I remember seeing this one flying out of Thurliegh as a kid. I seem to remember her having a long sensor tube on the nose? Nicely done Yes, quite possibly - 148 did a lot of trials work in it's time. I've not yet managed to find two photographs where it looks exactly the same, which all added to the head scratching fun!
