BAC
This is Marqutte's re-pop of the ancient FROG Vimy bomber. It wasn't molded very well and the extra sprue to convert it need alot of work. I scratched the interior and used invisible mending thread for the rigging -which took ages! Here it is.... Was this the first no frills airline? 'easiProp' perhaps? 15

Hi BAC, I know this is off topic but are all the parts still in the kit for the millitary version? If so where can you get it? Would love to build a model of the Vimy as I've actually had chance to marshal the replica that was built at various events during the 2005 airshow season. Thats me back right under the prop. BAC
Hi Ponti, To answer your question, yes the Marqutte kit does come with all of the military bits -bombs, guns, pilots, original fuselage etc etc. The Marqutte version of the old FROG tooling is starting to get pretty scarce now. But on E-Bay or secondhand shops you should find it either under FROG, Novo, Marquette and more recently Eastern Express has also issued this old Vimy kit. I would try and get the FROG or Novo ones as the molding quality should be better. Cheers.

Craig
Yes it does fly! I used to work in the hanger at Dunsfold aerodrome where that is now kept. I wasn't working on planes but we rented a corner of the hanger to work on designing and building electric / Diesel hybrid buses. We had plenty of spare time during the day to watch the filming of Top Gear and look at the aircraft. A white south African DC3 was also stored in there. It is a lovely plane and very well built. The reason they can fly it though is the modern engines it is fitted with. BMW V8's I think. All the blue silicone hoses and oil filters don't really suit the plane somehow Craig. Yep it really does fly, amazing to watch when the pictures were taken we had seen it enter the circuit and though ok it will be here in a couple of minutes. My girlfriend and I had time to go and spend a penny and we still got back before it touched down and the taxi very slowly. Craig you are right the engines are V8's but they are a variation of the Chrysler lumps fitted with superchargers. The aircraft was built to recreate the original flight across the atlantic and down to eygpt. There are very loud rumours that it might be seen again in the skies in the not to distant future. Craig
Ho Ponti Searching on the internet it seems that this plane has had a variety of engines throughout it's life. It seems that it started with big block chevy engines then changed to BMW V12s at a later date. Not sure what is in there now. I think I had some pictures somewhere I took at Dunsfold with the BMW valve covers visible through the cowlings. Vimmy engines It was at the Dunsfold wings and wheels day a couple of weeks ago but I didn't take any pictures. Craig.
BAC
Before anyone says I know I don't care, it's interesting! Would this be the same Vimy that I saw at Shuttleworth a number of years ago in dark green with 'Shell' written on it?
Potato Pete
Would this be the same Vimy that I saw at Shuttleworth a number of years ago in dark green with 'Shell' written on it? Yes, that's the one. I lived at a place called Nanhurst a couple of years ago which is just down the road from Dunsfold, and I remember clearing out the garage one Sunday (as you do) and hearing this strange aeroplane noise outside, so I popped my head out the door and there was the Vimy floating slowly across the sky. Beautiful indeed. Sadly, I missed Dunsfold this year - it's a good airshow Pete Edited September 5, 2007 by Potato Pete

Ho Craig, Last time I talk to the chap who was flyin it, also was one of the main builders said they were V8's cause we were joking that between the two engines they made the same horsepower as the engine in my car. Oh well I stand corrected, never listen to a yank they get easily confused.

72modeler
Hard to believe somebody built a full scale replica of a Vimy and that they fly it! BIG brass ones, if you ask me! Check out these videos. What an amazing amount of time and money. I must say I was surprised to see that BAC was the builder, and not Moa! Very, very nice model, and I can't imagine how you got all those bits aligned and cemented together. I am impressed! Adrian Hills
The company Instone is alive and well and operating from Sussex. It now specialises in flying Livestock around the world. The company was formed in 1919 and as it was absorbed into Imperial Airways in 1924 which eventually ended up being British Airways is why last year BA claimed they were 100 years old! Britman
Marvelous build and given I was in the stash at the weekend I had a good look at my example. It came close to selection and I can say you have completed this kit with a lot of careful clever modeling. Keith
