Muzz
Hello My first posting of one of my finished products, it's the Revell 1/48 Phantom FGR-2 with Aries cockpit, exhaust cans and Airdoc decals. It was also my first time using my new Harder & Steenbeck Evolution airbrush, so lots of firsts here! The photo's ain't great and I may try again with some natural light. Any tips or pointers greatfully received. Edited October 27, 2008 by Muzz

TEZ
Muzz, lovely FGR2. I have a soft spot for British Phantom's and especially Wildenrath based aircraft. Andrew

AnonymousAA72
Nice one Muzz, you've managed a great job there - just one minor point - and it could well be the light in your photo's, but the the natural metal areas on the inner tailplanes appear to be very dark... they were a pale aluminium colour with a slightly darker centre section, but other than that a very nice job there - well done! bexwh773
Methinks the Phantom Phanatics on the board will approve Phrom this Phantom Phanatic, I can safely say I approve Nice one Muzz, you've managed a great job there - just one minor point - and it could well be the light in your photo's, but the the natural metal areas on the inner tailplanes appear to be very dark... they were a pale aluminium colour with a slightly darker centre section, but other than that a very nice job there - well done! Muzz, I agree with Bill, that centre panel on the inner tail plane should be different, please dont use my Falklands FGR2 for reference as I buggered it right up, but my other Phantoms, I have used a mix of Revell 90 & Matt 83 for that centre panel to make it stand it out from the bright aluminium Phinish. As for your first model post on the forum, well put it this way, you do anymore Phantoms like this and I think I'll just go and sulk in my Naughty Corner out the way Thanks for sharing a wonderful model ATB Bex

Bandwagon 106
Done very nicely there Muzz. That is a scheme I have not seen very often (the blue tail) and I quite like it. (this is from a major hard core US Navy Phan fan!). Speaking for J-79 engined Phantoms, Aires really do provide excellent nozzles, it looks like they have struck gold for the Spey Phantoms as well. (Although, the kit ones aren't too bad). Gotta love the AirDoc decals, I have the USAFE Phantom sheets (which reminds me....) Muzz
Thank you all for your kind comments and pointers, it's safe to post pics here after all!! The natural metal inner tailplane parts are actually seperate colours it's just a combination of crap photography and too much weathering, I'm going to try and gets some shots in natural light over the next few days. The Aries bits were superb, although I felt the exhaust cans could have been a slightly better fit, they appeared a wee bit too small in diameter as I had to fill a few gaps with plastic card. The Airdoc decals were superb and I would highly recommend their book on RAF Phantoms in Germany which goes with the decals, loads of great photo's and profiles of all the Sqn and colour schemes. You'll notice I did have a wee problem right at the end where I pulled some decal of the starboard side of the RWR fairing on the tail while masking for the sensors, it's going to be a bugger to match the paint and touch up . I'm hoping Two Mikes are going to produce some British Toom intake covers to finish it off, thanks again.
eng
Beauty Muzz, a very nice Phantom indeed, weathering looks superb. A good tip I got for photo's is to use a large sheet of sky blue card under and curved up behind the model as the background, it seems to work quite nicely (don't ask me the science in this - it just works rather nicely!), natural daylight is also best but living opposite you on the West coast of Scotland I know exactly what the chances of getting ANY sunlight at the moment are!!!!!!!!! Lovely build, Rgds, Eng
