1:48 Tamiya Mosquito Twin Highball

Interesting - wonder why they've mucked up????? :(

I suspect that you copied the link from a forum post maybe? The dots as usually inserted to shorten a long URL down for display on forums. Also, I tried to link back, but it won't allow dynamic images. *

* For those that don't know, dynamic images are those created on the fly by some systems. They usually have php script that produces the image from the store for display on screen. They're also prone to being used to access forums by hackers, which is why they're not permitted on here :police:

Just been doing some work on the Mossie this avo (not feeling too bad for a change!). I was a bit bored with the rather bland areas of the camo, so mixed up some slightly lighter versions of the colors, and applied them with my heart in my mouth

Fortunately, they came out ok, so I've given the whole airframe an overcoat of matt varnish (Xtracrylix), and it looks quite nice :) There's a tiny amount of silvering on some of the decals, but given how leathery they were (the kit decals), I'm pleased with how they came out. I've unmasked the canopies, and glued on the landing gear, popped the props on, and guess what? She's looking quite nice ^_^

I've also started the final work on the gear bay doors, access ladder, access door & tail wheel. She might be finished today, so I'll leave taking photos until then ;)

Mike, dug up another little snip-ette ....

This is essentially about 617sq 'Dambusters' ( :worthy: ) including a live test of their bomb. There is also footage of 618sq Highballs; at 1:07 there is a shot of a Highball bomb spinning in the bomb bay, at 3:25 footage of practicing against a ship (which I posted before somewhere on here) and at 4:22 there is head-on footage of a Highball being dropped and bouncing up the beach towards the camera. All the Highballs are painted with stripes, presumably for high-speed camera film playback for observational purposes.

Pfffft .... who needs camo at the height they were intended to fly at ? :D

Heh, that's true... any German that spotted them would have to be lying on his back in a field somewhere

You know... I'm seriously thinking about doing it the same color as the underside, with steely bits for the central hubs.. and the port/starboard color tabs, of course. I'm basing my decision on that close-up shot of the bombs in the shroud. They seem to be the same shade, which implies it's either MSG or something with a similar shade... oh, and these ones weren't striped either, so I'm guessing they were operational units? :hmmm:

What do the collective think? :please:

The aircraft you have done certainly carried non-live bombs (from what I can gather) which appear to be in the underside colour. Do 'em grey .... :)

To prove a point, your Highball Mossie below.... they look grey to me, matey.

Thanks for posting those images & commisserations on the return from the hols ;)

On the close-up, there's evidence of some goopy painting on the underside in front of the shround. Hand painted, as you can still see the brush-strokes! I dread to think what color that was!

I had the camera out to take some shots of the parts for the Jag, so I thought I'd take a few of the Mossie too :)

She's ostensively complete, save for the following parts, which are in the last stages of being painted...

Here's the big bit... it may get a bit of pigment weathering, as it still looks a bit clean. You might also just be able to see the antenna line, which is so far only glued to the tail.

I'm suffering from "I can't believe I've nearly finished this" syndrome at the moment... it seems to have gone on for ages, probably because of me being inactive for so long, but it'll be good to get 'er done ^_^

C'mon Mike, I can't wait to see her finished!!!!

It'll be today, more than likely... I got to the point where I was doing more harm than good, so called it a night...

Hmm, so that's what I get for trying to be nice to you is it?

Won't be doing that again, hope you drop it on your toe! :tease:

Now if I had a clue what that means, I'd possibly be upset :hmmm:

Ok, she's finished. Nearly.... Just needs a dab of green on the mast to cover the CA, 2 blobs of black on the PVA insulators, and a coat of grey on the bombs. I've undercoated them with Alclad Steel, so that I can chip a few edges off once they're grey, to give them a "handled" look. I'll post up some pics later.

She's done... bombs painted, weathered & post/starboard indicators added, installed & now just in need of a few photos. I'll do those tomorrow if it's sunny :)
