1:48 Tamiya Mosquito Twin Highball

How does a 1:32 Mk 22 Spit , or a 1:32 Tonka (Fin for Spike), or a 1:32 Hunter, or a 1:32 Me 163 grab you? :wicked:

Those are all in stock, in le stash de moi ^_^ There's actually a few more - most of the Matchbox 1:32 range, but they're being kept for posterity, rather than for building  Just need a Puma & I'll have the full set.

You don't fancy pushing the boat out and doing a Seafire 47 then? :whistling:

Maybe later, but I want to revisit my youth & build one up old Skool first ;)

Mike I have kit with resin parts and I never build one, I think If I build a plane with those extra parts I never end it.

Can you post some pics from cockpit , The pics you post are a bit far away.

Best regards.

Héctor

I'll hopefully post a few more pics of the cockpit tonight, as I'm half way through the weathering/detail painting process. Despite my best efforts to cover it in white paint last night (I failed), it's actually looking quite good so far :)

Reet-o.... Most of the cockpit painting's done, and I've assembled a few bits. Still to do is the control column, ancillary instrument panels, and the IP sandwich. I also need to paint up the sight from the HighBall conversion set, which I've kept on the pour stub until I've ready to use it, as it's a bit fiddly.

Anyhoo... here's a couple of pics:

Not quite up to Neil's standards  but I'm quite pleased with it. Next job is to try & shoehorn it all into the fuselage & get it to fit

Mike,

Great work on the cockpit, it looks fantastic.

One observation - I may be wrong but the Highball Mossie wouldn't have been fitted with Gee so the Gee display (the lower black box that looks like an oscilloscope to the left of the navigator) wouldn't have been carried.

HTH,

Ian

I had my suspicions that might be the case, but wasn't sure which box was which... I may love 'em to bits, but I wouldn't profess to be an expert  Not sure if I can remove it now without damaging the paintwork :hmmm:

Ohhhh that is very tidy mate, especially the leather cushions and belts, what are the yellow cartridge type things that are everywhere in racks ?

I think they're flares, but I could be wrong. It could just have been modelled on a Mossie with a caffeine addicted crew, so they could all be thermos flasks ;)

As my good friend 'Darth' would say..... "Impressive"

Ian

You know Darth Vader? Can I get his autograph? ;)

Spiffing stuff Mike. :speak_cool:

As a suggestion, don't glue the pilots seat in until the whole model is assembled, painted and decalled etc, it sticks up above the cockpit/fuselage side and can easily be knocked and damaged if you are not carefull. (That's why I left mine out anyway!).

Just a thought :)

Yeah, I'd noticed that... trouble i've got is that the attachment points are bent, and installing it after construction MAY be a bit tricky. I'll see if I can correct them to make it easier to install later ;)

Cracking job on the cockpit, Mike!

Was the Highball Mosquito operational or just a prototype?

Best ask Neil - he's the expert, I'm just mucking about with one of his sets :D

Nearly, but not quite. They did consider using them against the Tirpitz but it obviously never happened. They were eventually shipped off to Australia (618 Sq.) after being modified with tropical intakes, 4 blade props and arrestor hooks for carrier operations against the Japanese. That didn't quite happen either and the War ended, and I think most of the airframes were chopped up or burnt or sold to locals. :fraidnot:

Bloody criminal, innit? :crying:

I'm just glad that people have the foresight not to let that happen anymore. Imagine the world if there were no Jags in existence in a few year's time? :o
