spike7451
OK,Well I have started this today. On first examination of the sprue's the is very little flash anywhere on the model,no sink marks & just some injection pin marks on some of the inner surfaces,a quick file & they're gone.Overall detail is of a high standard & careful painting will produce outstanding result's.Panel lines are very finely recessed. As for the office, well,it's again very detailed with decals for the MFD's.The seats themselves are some of the best kit seats I have seen! The wheels are also weighted HOWEVER the are no locating lugs so they wheels will have to be attatched last so the flat bottoms can be adjusted to fit flat. Weapons are 2xHARM,2xAMRAMM,2x500Lb slicktail bombs & 2xAIM9X.Wings are split at the fold joint although no folding mechanism is moulded. The boarding ladder can be up or down. One 'oddity' is the grill on the nose gear door is replicated with a clear part. Photo's to follow when the camera's charged. Merv
Bandwagon 106
Thought you might like it! The nose door on the real aircraft has a clear, or opaque section, a kind of mesh (the 4 small rectangles near the lower edge). Hasegawa provide a decal for this whilst Revell use a clear part. It is a nice kit, I have done two single seaters by Revell and thought they were pretty good. I have the Revell Germany release with the Diamondbacks anniversary markings, the decals are printed by DACO, and are very nice, nearly as good as the Cartograf ones provided for Hasegawa's release of this scheme, which I also have!(I'm going to do both as well, in this scheme!) AnonymousER99
http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...c=21884&hl= That is Takamotas build from right here on BM!! Might make a good bit of inspiration huh? I guess the Revell Superbug does build up quite nice.
Bandwagon 106
As I mentioned Mike, I want to do at least 2 Hornets in this scheme! Use the kit decals from Hasegawa and Revell, might have a go at getting a second one from the Hasegawa kit, there's the Two Bobs Sheet, and I might get the DACO sheet as well. Thats only Diamondback 2005! I might treat you all to a side by side Hasegawa and Monogram Super Hornet build sometime featuring nice bright colours and lots of bombs and missiles. Takamota
It's a lovely kit to build with a little TLC. I sawed the flaps off and re positioned them dropped. The only other thing was the decals. I opted to paint the red sections so i could pre shade the areas first. This meant cutting out the diamonds from the decals but, with a nice sharp knife, this proved to be straight forward enough and looks more realistic i thought. Looking forward to seeing how someone else tackles this one.
Bandwagon 106
With Hasegawa, you can either use full decals for the red areas, or use diamonds and paint the background red. It is quite interesting to see how different companies have interpreted this scheme, Two Bobs have the diamonds for the spine, but full colour wing markings. I'm not quite sure which one I will do first at the moment. Joel
Bandwagon 106
Here are the variations, as interpreted by Revell / DACO, Hasegawa / Cartograf and TwoBobs for VFA-102's 50th Aniversary Super Hornet. The Boxart. Hasegawa's superb decal sheet by Cartograf. The sheets for the VFA-192 and 195 F/A-18Cs are just as spectacular. I am not doing this one first! I would like to get a couple more SHs under my belt before I cut up this sheet! TwoBobs aftermarket sheet Revell's sheet. Again. very nice, plus you get the jetpipe rectangles which are missing from the Hase kit. DACO-Astra also do a seperate aftermarket sheet for VFA-102, as do Afterburner. The DACO sheet includes the 2007 CAG and CO jets, while Afterburner concentrate on the non anniversary jets. (Yes, I would like these as well.) I am also getting Hasegawa's VFA-102 2007 release soon! I will start another thread showing the kit contents soon, when I do these kits side by side. Bandwagon 106
Thought so, with it having the VFA-41 decals. I saw a few of these in Skegness Model Shop back in May, they were charging £30 for them, almost the same as Hasegawa! The RevellDE is about £20! spike7451
Well,I have decided on what to hang on the empty pylons on this kit. Ready? Here goes... I'm going to stick on the two spare Taurus Stand-Off missiles from the Typhoon kit.I mean the USN may use something like this in future. spike7451
I'm just working on the cockpit, cutting out the decals for the MFD's & I just noticed the are decals for the ONE cockpit, one powered off & one powered on! Think VFA-22 was the only unit to have flown both single seat and twin seat jets during the same time period, and that more by chance than intention! Not sure on the MFD decals - though from a distance (and certainly when you consider scale) some screens will look very black and dark even when switched on, it just depends what menu has been selected by the crew for the displays, so you can mix and match the MFD decals to your hearts content between front and rear cockpits as the menus are fully selectable and can be configured completely independently front to rear, and from each other. I'm building one of these as well, going to do it as the VFA-154 'Black Knights' CAG jet loaded with JSOWs, AMRAAM, AIM-9X and a couple of fuel tanks from Royale Resin! This is my Hornet of choice... http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Navy/...uper/1335318/M/ Edited October 21, 2008 by WolvoWill
