Madman
Temporary assemblies. There will be some extra work: I need to change the lower wing attachment. And there are some other issues that start bothering me... Before anybody else notices: the aft section of the body (behind the wing) is no longer wood paneled, but fabric covered. Before repainting it, I simulated the fabric texture with a layer of paper tissue. Close up of the wing assembly brass tubes. There will be two of them: fore and aft. The control wheel assembly, for which I scratchbuilt the floor mount. I had to trim slightly the lower control horns. The seats will be redone as well. miduppergunner
Excellent modelling. As a matter of interest will you be using a jig for the rigging - or freehand?? I had an attempt at the Gotha - the wing struts in particular were very brittle and disintegrated. I intend using the Aero wing jig and making new struts. i hope the struts on this model are more robust.

Madman
I cut and broke away the fore part of the floor. Then I added some styrenre ribbing, and ended by oil-painting the wood structure of the hull. Now this goes into the drying box, before I can add more ribbing, as per Datafile photo no 82. Madman
...will you be using a jig for the rigging - or freehand??... Yes, a jig is mandatory to ensure correct alignments. I will build one on purpose for this task.

Madman
The forward gunner station is now finished, after several layers of Future. Then I painted, weathered and glued the fuel tanks. Close-up on the tanks. They are no longuer brand-new... The forward gunner station. Yes, it's all plastic (how fantastic...)
Madman
Time to glue the body sides together. Then came the lower wing assembly. I started by cutting off brass pipes... Then I widened the slots to insert the pipes... And everything is glued in place. For the wing plugs I had to 0.8mm drill holes into the wings. It was difficult, 0.8 is almost the wing's thickness... But at least now I can slide the wings on at the very end only...

KLP Publishing
Beautiful work Pierre! Can you explain the contraption you're using to cut the brass for us? Looks like some sort of horizontal drill press with a clamp for a motor tool. Or something. Kev
Madman
...explain the contraption you're using to cut the brass for us? ... It is a regular drill press, which can be swung to the side by 90°. I use a Dremel drill, and the cutting device is a diamond cutting disk. You can get it as a Dremel accessory. A cheaper version cuts fine too: the standard brown cutting discs.
Madman
The inside of the hull received some additional details. Close-up on the staircase that allows the rear gunner to climb up to the aft gun. Two steel cables strengthen the steps on each side. The steering wheel, with the control cables.. Madman
Building the pulleys for the aileron control cables. Brass sheet, plastic rod, Lyncra thread and a good load of patience. Closer... Even closer... Yes it is 1/72 scale There will be some clean-up to remove the silver speckles that broke off from the thread when I stretched it.
