desmojen
Today was the RAF Lyneham families day for this year. I was lucky enough to get the afternoon off to watch some flying, and also lucky enough that my husband Lee was able to get the afternoon off to join me I went home for lunch while waiting for lee to get back and watched the Red Arrows from my garden in blazing sunshine. When he got home the Role Demo had just started. Rather than going to the display area, we went straight to a parking spot alongside the runway, idea being to watch the imminent arrivals of the four Tornados and two Hawks. As we arrived 874 also arrived and sat there right in front of us waiting to use the runway. Then, the four Tornados came screaming directly overhead in their final pass of the display! I got some pics of them all landing, here are a couple of the better ones. I only just missed getting the touchdown moment on this one, you can see the tyre smoke just behind it. Once these had all landed 874 took off. About no minutes later, the Reds appeared around the corner mob handed to get away back to Lincolnshire. After they had gone we went over to the display area and walked round the statics, mainly because I wanted some pictures of the Dominie. Statics were a bit sparse this year, but you could get inside all of them if you were happy to queue to do so. I like this one of the Chin Hook We then walked back to the van intending to drive back to spotters corner to watch the AWACS and role demo team leave. As we did so I took this photo of the sky looking very heavy duty. As we got back to the runway is was starting to rain but the AWACS came along within a few minutes and was quickly followed by the Role Demo aircraft. This is what we had been waiting for, afterburners at twenty paces! Can you just hear this??? Wow, what a noise it was. Lee happily reported that his liver was now beside his left knee cap and his ears were bleeding Joking aside, we both really enjoyed watching from there and I got some reasonable pictures. I think I'm coming to terms with the fact that me and my camera don't speak the same language now, but I thought you might like some of these Jen.
