I'm sure loads of people have said "Oh, God here's Dean"

Stuka's looking good, for the stubborn decals that are silvering you might want to try using Tamiya thinners as the setting solution - it works a charm with thick decals that resist all other solutions.

Cheers for the tip Ian, but after multiple applications of MicroSol they've finally behaved themselves. As for the silvering, nothing much I can do now except try a bit of matt coat over the top of them and pointy brush paint over the silvered bits. I might try the Tamiya thinners trick another time though, but wouldn't it upset the Klear and the acrylics underneath?

As for the "God" bit, that wasn't the bone of contention - it was the "lovely looking" bit that threw me!

And Erwin...couldn't have done this build without you, mate.

Cheers,

Dean

Hi Dean,

If the stencils keep silvering,I would take them off and proceed without them.

There aren't many stencil and people won't realy notice them not being on.

They will however notice the silvering. So that might spoil the endresult.

Cheers folks. A bit of progress to report and no pictures, but I'm still plugging away. The exhausts have been sorted, the rear canopy is now masked and sprayed, and the machine gun has been cleaned up and butchered to accept the photoetch. Next step is a bit of fiddly PE work in the canopies, then it's just a matter of final assembly of undercart and flaps and a coat of matt.

Should get it finished on time - two more weekends to go...

Dean

Good to hear.

Looking forward to the finished model.

Well, 72 hours of work later, here's the finished article. It put up a fight towards the end, problems with the rear machine gun fitting, and even allowed me to break the antenna wire while photographing it! I had to stop the photo session and replace the stretched sprue with another piece, during which I knocked the bomb free...cascade effect. All's well that ends well, though.

All in all a satisfying build, and it's certainly cured me of my fear of raised panel lines. Some of the rivets are still quite prominent, but many of them were on the real thing, too.

Thanks again to Erwin for the decals.

Thanks for watching folks, hope you like it.

Cheers,

Dean

Oh Boy that brings back memories!

I built one back in the early 1970s and it was my pride and joy. I had the desert version with the snake and my cousin had the Hungarian boxing.

John

i built one in mid 70s in desert finnish with the red and white snake down the side and it was one of my early favourites as a kid who had a downs syndrome friend i didn't use the pilot either once it had lost a few parts it succumed to being crashed and burned in the back garden after being shot down from my washing line with my newly accuired 22 airifle then set alight strangely i still have the photo's as i took up photograpy at the same time :shithappens:
