seanrgb Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Bad luck on the paint job matey ..Hope you can recover this one
Rallychef Posted October 27, 2008 Author Posted October 27, 2008 (edited) finally, time back at the workbench, I gave up full time working to have more time to look after my long term poorly wife, but I seem to have more part time work coming in than I ever did full time, still lots of motorsport work, so thats a bonus. That should be me now workwise untill the new year, so back to the viper. I have fitted a heater into the workshop, so I can work over the dark winter nights. After the complete rollocks I did of the paintwork, their has been loads of sanding down, anyway, enough rambling on, the result so far Some more rubbing down with 1500 wet & dry, then hopefuly we might get some more paint back on tomorrow Regards Ian D PS Thanks to Dave (Diesel Donkey) for the advice on the twisted scania chassis, much better now & ready to go for the KUTA gb Edited November 10, 2008 by Rallychef
Rallychef Posted October 28, 2008 Author Posted October 28, 2008 (edited) managed to get some paint thrown at the viper today, a much more pleasing result than the last effort. It will be set aside for a few days before we set about the racing stripes and final assembly. I also took the opertunity to use a slightly lighter shade of dark blue, as the previous came out almost as black orange peel!!! I am now stuck a bit untill Revell come up with the missing clear sprue (see earlier post!). As per the instructions I sent off the reciept, bar code and other general details as soon as I got it back in August, I had heard nothing back, so last week rang them to see what was happening. All my details were taken again and low and behold, I get two identical letters saying replacement parts will be here wihin 21 days. We shall see. Regards Ian D. Edited November 5, 2008 by Rallychef
Rallychef Posted November 5, 2008 Author Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) some more work today, managed to get the stripes on, didnt feel confident enough to paint them, so painted some decal paper white, cut into required strips and applied to bodywork. quite pleased with the results Now just waiting for the glazing to complete the car Regards Ian D. Stuart Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Excellent work Ian, glad you're happy with that finish - I certainly would be, looks stunning!! On a side note, what kind of "motorsport work" do you do? I've been looking at marshalling but my nearest track is around 30miles away and I've been questioning whether I can afford to do it voluntarily lol! Stuart
Rallychef Posted November 5, 2008 Author Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) many thanks to everbody's kind comments, Stuart, on your side note, as my username might suggest, over the years I have been involved in Team and/or hospitality catering for many of the world Rally Teams, my location makes it ideal for Keilder, Grizedale and the Scottish borders. i love ralling and have been privaliged to meet (and feed) many of the worlds great drivers over the past 20 years, mainly subaru, Skoda and Citreon Test Teams as well as many UK privateers. Back to your question, I have not a great deal of experience on track racing but have done a fair amount of rally marshalling and saftey radio work over the years. Most marshalls now require to attend a basic training course these days ( to apease the dreaded Health & saftey bods), I would suggest you contact your local motor club who would have details of up and coming saftey/training days and they usually have some fun club/socal nights to get to know the local motorsport scene and the people involved Regards Ian D. Rallychef Posted November 10, 2008 Author Posted November 10, 2008 Still awaiting the missing clear sprue from Revell, assured it is on its way, viper all but finished, needs front headlight lens, spot lens & windowscreen, and a quick polish. It has all been assembled and this is the results As soon as the clear parts are fitted I will take final pics and post in garage. Regards Ian D.
