FGR-2 Cockpit Periscope

Can anyone tell me if the Navs periscope fitted to the port side of the canopy centre section was fitted to all FGR-2's or was it just a mod fitted when required? At first I thought it was fitted to all but on looking closely at photo's I see that when it's fiited the cockpit window in the centre section is actually blanked out to accomodate it.

Sure I've heard it was a later addition bolted on to most airframes. Taken off Challenger tanks if I recall.

Before Daz comes along I'll nip in with a small correction - I believe the periscopes came from Chieftains not Challengers.

Just realised my last two posts have had a "clanky tank" theme The lure of the "Dark Side" is strong this week .....

I thought it was retired Chieftain tanks: the timeframe would seem to make sense.

The Cheiftain periscopes were fitted to most but not all FGR2s. You'll have to check photographic evidence of the particular airframe to find out as I'm not aware of any listings showing which had them.
