AnonymousAA72
Thought I'd move it here for a bit more "open" feedback! You may know the story....missed the Jagular GB thread - am building this as XX725 of 54 Sqn ca, 1975 in her delivery colours of Dark Sea Grey and Dark Green over Light Aircraft Grey - with earlier pointy nose. Standard Airfix/Heller kit with Neomega cockpit. Loads of bits to be added from Neil's Paragon range, Mikes resin intakes and the turned aluminium pitot tube ..........here's a re-cap bringing the GR1 story (The T2 will follow on a separate post) more or less up to date...at the moment she's primed, with di-electric panels and cannon troughs painted with a bit of pre-shading - nothing too drastic as she's going to be very clean - befitting her "new arrival" to Coltishall status!!! Hopefully I'll get the Light Aircraft Grey on tomorrow...........
eng
Looks sweet Bill, can't beat Neils Jag bits eh? And the Neomega pit is lovely as well. Miss the Jag's big style, was on hols in East Anglia recently and the place is too quiet without the Jag (just the expensive rumble of Strike Eagles and some Tonka's left to liven one's hols!!) Looking forward to more pic's. Eng

AnonymousAA72
Funny thing - giving it a splash of zinc chromate primer has brought it to life a bit!! I'm looking forward to getting some real paint on soon!!!!!
jaguarfan
Missing the lovely Jag This build helps to compensate a little! (OK a lot ). cheers Bob
alrite
such a good looking plane, and not a bad model . No seriously, carn't wait till its done in the rather rarely seen early RAF camo.
AnonymousAA72
Managed to move XX725 a bit further down the production line and through the paintshop!!! I tackled the lower Light Aircraft Grey initially - and this served too highlight the particularly poor join between the upper and lower wing sections!!! I'v added a fillet of superglue here which sanded down okay..... The anti-glare panel has been painted and masked off....I changed the forward canopy fairing after this by adding plastic card..... And some views of painting progress ... ... ...

AnonymousAA72
Looking nice Bill. Is the non LRMTS nose fro the Heller box? Hi Graham, thanks! The rear section of the nose is indeed from the Heller "A" kit, however the pitot is turned aluminium encased in Milliput!
AnonymousAA72
Very nice (and rapid) progress Bill... keep up the good work Rapid? Seeing as it missed the GB by a long, long way - I dunno about that! But I managed to get some decals on last night! Adds a bit more "life"! next job is the undercarriage - then stores/scratchbuilt doors, seat and canopy - then some FOD covers...and then its on to the T2!!! Angels49
Another super cool, Jag build in the offering I see. If this keeps up I'm quitting ( looking at the wonderful builds and IP shots, that is ) Every one I see I want to get a kit, but SWMBO is in control of the finances, she's better at it than I, after all ya can't eat green stuff, or blue tak, and drink tenax or testors' liquid, though some have tried Edited September 23, 2008 by Angels49

atdb27
Very Nice Jag Bill. Worked on this baby toooo many moons ago now! One observation if I may please? Having added detail to the MLG bays do you intend having the doors open? If so then the 2 NLG doors would have to be open as well. U/C Doors were only opened at engine shutdown or for turnrounds/maint etc. Then closed post start up for a sortie to keep the u/c 'sequence' correct. JagRigger
Which won't be too hard as the splashguard is moulded into the cockpit floor / nose u/c bay roof, and is pretty much al you'd see with the doors open pre-flight.
AnonymousAA72
Right...confusion has set in! This post started off in the "In Progress" section, but was moved here back in 2008!!! The model was very much on theback burner for a whole year, but recently I decided that I should really get "her" and the T2 ZB615 finished. So, started to post some pic's again in the In Progress section, but will finish her off here...... Selection of decals used... And the main undercarriage units Decalling under way.... I won't bother cutting and pasting the rest of the thread from the In Progress section...but will add some more photo's of progress this week. Thanks for looking. Faceplate
Lookin pretty sweet dude! I've noticed this thread bouncing...I was stoked to see your post as I am starting my own Jag finally. Question for you. When the time arises, could you post pix of the main gear in the well's when completed? I'm not brave enough to scratch build the entire bays so I'm stealing some one else's technique in replicating part of the bay's. I'll post pix soon. I love the gear by the way. They will be quite useful references Can't wait to see the end product! Edited January 26, 2010 by cipher74

AnonymousAA72
Managed to get some of the build done over the last week or so... Kits doors were thinned down and additional ones scratch built - I've also started on the IFR probe I also had to scratch build the inner pair of pylons from plastic card. The kits pair are far too small. I have a pair supplied by Neil Burkill of Paragon some years ago (the other pair are on the T2), and used those as a template And with some paint on - the tanks were sprayed freehand - as there was a soft demarkation line on the DSG/LACG tanks I had three sets of photo-etched ladders from Paragon - two or the two-seater (duh!!!) and one for the GR1 - I screwed that one up , so ended up scratch-building one - thanks to Deanflyer's trail-blazing!! Thanks Dean!!! Undercarriage bay...waiting for the doors to be added... ...and added on the other side - you don't see much of the bay!!!! Still some way to go , but certainly beginning to look like a Jag!!! Difficult to see in the cockpit - as its all black!!! Hi Bill, Wow thought this babe had dropped off the map! Only comment is that the u/c jack is tooooo long bud. It should sit just fwd of the centre lower door hinge and almost touching the roof of the intake trunking. Can send you a good pic/scan from the Guardian of the skies book if need be? Pm me if interested. Otherwise she's one cool cat. Adrian

I should be able to amend it okay though - I can't leave it like that!
