James G
Mish, it says 'Mach loop', so I think it is the RAF circuit around Machynlleth, Mid Wales. James Very cool vid btw - took ages to buffer though! Edited July 29, 2008 by James G

Phartycr0c
Mish the Mach loop is a rather large aviation roundabout (literally) which is used for low lwvel training. It is about 4 miles east of Dolgellau in North Wales. The subject is covered extensively at www.lowfly.net Flying is hit and miss, some days tou can be stood all day up a hillside and blank, others aircraft come one after another! Not fridays though! Craig S
Fridays can be a bit hit and miss. I've been up Cad on a Friday and had quite a good day, but Wednesday or Thursday tends to be better. It is an experience that takes some beating though. Where else can you see stuff like this?
Shaun
Nice Vid, I recomend a trip to the "Loop" for any aviation enthusiast. Don't expect loads of action, but when it does arrive its a very exciting 30 secs!! I have found Thursdays to be my most productive days. Cad west is the best location for in your face action. Here is a good vid (a bit dated) of the view from the cockpit on a low level training flight in a Grey Hawk from Valley. Shaun. Greg B
So why not Fridays? Crab doesnt work fly on a Friday if they can help it, nor past 1530 weekdays
AnonymousA667
Crab doesnt work fly on a Friday if they can help it, nor past 1530 weekdays Nor Saturdays and Sundays in my experience. Waste of time student pilots trying to get in some practice MATZ penetrations at the weekend, there's never anybody there and you can broach their air space with apparent impunity. peebeep
Nev
Crab doesnt work fly on a Friday if they can help it, nor past 1530 weekdays Well the RAF have never done Fridays, as my old man will attest to, but the 1530 thing.....Was at Conningsby last week, all the afternoon launches had returned by that time so I prepared to pack up for the day and it went *mental*. I lost count of the number of aircraft taking off and landing, and thats not including the 4-ship that was on the apron for an hour with linies crawling all over them before they all shut down - guessing one or more went u/s. Shame, cos one of them was toting 6 (SIX) AMRAAMs and I would have loved to get some better pics of it. Nor Saturdays and Sundays in my experience. Waste of time student pilots trying to get in some practice MATZ penetrations at the weekend, there's never anybody there and you can broach their air space with apparent impunity. My dad always said the Russians should attack on a Sunday if they've any sense!
Shaun
but the 1530 thing.... The same can be said for the Loop, in the winter around 4.30 will see the last but in the summer, flying can go into the evening on occaisions. I have seen on the way home after leaving the hills, Tornados, Harriers, F-15E and C-130 all using the MTA after 5.30. Here is another vid showing the loop from the cockpit Shaun.
