Some model pics

When I was a sprog my favourite hobby was building models. Loads of Airfix kits passed through my hands and ended up plastered in glue and with the Humbrol Enamel looking like it had been applied with a trowel though I did improve a bit as I got older. I think I built my last one in about 1981 just before I joined the Army.

Many, many years later, after “seeing the world”, getting married and having sprogs of my own I ended up in a difficult situation. Y’see, whilst my wife’s family are a great bunch they also have this incredible habit of talking excitedly all at the same time and at the tops of their voices. We would end up there on leave from Germany for a couple of weeks and the stunning noise was driving me doolally! Watching telly was a waste of time as I couldn’t hear it above the noise… :wall:

Then one day I was passing a small model shop in a town nearby and there calling gently to me from the window was a 1/35th Tamiya Chally 1. Eureka! (etc)… I suddenly felt that old elation and emotion long forgotten and rushed into the shop to buy it. I was surprised at the range of paints available and bought a couple of rattle cans. I think they were Matt Nato Green and Matt Black.

I then spent the next week or so sitting in the corner ignoring everyone as they loudly talked around me and built it. As they could see I was busy they just sort of left me too it. Bliss! :yahoo:

This tank has been used as a trial for most of the others and has “morphed” a bit over its seven year life yet I prefer it above them all. I did my first wash on it, my first pre-shading, first spray job, dusty look, dirty look, smoke look, scratch stuff (the oil can, bin covers and cam net). This poor beast has been through some abuse.

Anyway... Enough waffling. This is how it turned out eventually:

So I’d like to thank Mr Tamiya and my noisy in-laws for getting me back to modelling.

My next model (built the same week) was the AFV Club Scimitar. This one spent about six years on the dashboard of a few different cars. The Blu Tack under the track is what kept it in place unharmed all these years. Yesterday when I took a picture of it I snapped the track. :raincloud:
