bunnylurve
Hi guys, I'm finally taking the plunge and posting my first question on Britmodeller- dunno if this is the right place but here goes.... My local IPMS has decided that the theme for the 2008 Nationals at Telford is "Ugly Bug", in other words, build a model that you consider to be unsightly. I want to build something with wings, but I just cannot think of an aircraft that qualifies as a dog! So c'mon ladies and gents (begging) I really need your assistance here; nominations for an ugly plane is.....? Cheers, B.

JosephLalor
I think one RAF officer said that the Nimrod AEW.3 looked like an egg-bound chicken with mumps. Joseph
aeroplanedriver
I think the DFW Floh could be a contender. It really looks like it should have a talking dog flying it. Floh
Pete100
Yep, don't reckon they come more ugly or flight non efficient than the 'White Elephant' ...just my opinion though Pete.

tango98
Now, if you want something that is really FUGLY, how about an Avro Bison MK II? That thing was so ugly I shudder to think how many aviation photographer's camera lenses it broke! Cheers Dave
aeroplanedriver
I think another candidate may be the Percival EP-9. I caught this one at Oshkosh last summer.

aeroplanedriver
Hey..... hands off the Prospector !!!!!!! We actually love them Sincerely yours..... An EP.9 owner . Nothing personal...but you've gotta admit it's a face only a mother could love! Thanks for that link though. Interesting to see that the aircraft I saw at OSH has a history with the AAC, as well as a life of crime. Richard M
The French certainly had some challenging looking aircraft. Smer 1/72 Amiot 143. and Azur 1/72 Farman (SNCAC) NC 223.1 "Chef Pilote Laurent Guerrero" Best Rich
Giorgio N
Plenty of choices when it comes to ugly flying things ! Want a british one ? The sturgeon has been mentioned, though the contrail vac might not be easily available. The Seamew in pretty bad looking to my eyes at least, but there's a Magna resin kit in 1/72 (forgot, Magna did a sturgeon too). http://www.classicaircraft.co.uk/short_sea...otograph_64.htm BTW, not that the american Seamew was really much better looking: http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/images/k02000/k02836.jpg The french prewar bombers have been mentioned, fortunately dassault then built the Mirage IV to redeem his country of its aeronautics sins ! Prewar bombers were often quite ugly everywhere though ! The martin B-10 (think there's an old 1/72 kit) isn't exactly pretty: http://www.combatreform2.com/B10dutchairforce.jpg The same applies to the Mitsubishi Ki.2 (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Mitsubishi_Ki-2.jpg), of which there's a choroszi resin kit. If you want postwar, there might be a 1/144 kit of the Super Guppy, another quite ugly plane. Although in my opinion the worst looking ever aircraft was this: http://www.aeronautics.ru/archive/vvs/tupolev/tu91_01.jpg Followed by this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...shin_Il-40P.jpg Now those were prototypes of a kind or another, and I don't know any kit of the two, but some modern operational jets are not that good looking... the A-10 isn't really the Scarlett Johansson of combat jets ! Neither are the Mig-21 or the F-117. But again I think the worst looking comes from the old Soviet Union: the two seater Su-22 is very, very ugly !
