Red Dragon
A very hot weekend, high winds on the Saturday lulled you into a false sense of security, should have used more sunscreen! Not sure if I like the "new" arena, lots of blindspots with it. The new build part of the museum looks very impressive, the commentary tower would not look out of place on an airfield. Very, very dusty on Saturday, perhaps the couple of shots I am posting now will give an impression of the dust. More photos to follow later. Phil With dust. Without the dust. Happy Martian
The dust was something they fixed on Sunday as they'd watered down most of the running area. But I agree about the new arena. Still to be convinced that the public viewing should have been on such low banking. Sat at the front for best photo opportunities and the wall (and a number of wooden posts blocked the view). My Dad stood behind an Ice Cream van in the corner (so he could stand to take photos and not interfere with others behind him) and was promptly told by a uniformed young lady to move back to to the public area. Still a good day all told. Great that the Tiger ran around a bit. Shame the Achilles didn't turn up. Really p*ssed that my video camera bust 15 minutes into the warmup. Happy Martian
It was "parked" at the end of the row of British tanks, just past the Challenger 1 and the Scorpion. Can't honestly say if it was there both days but one of the lads from the Centurion display told me where to look. I'd already wandered past it once without seeing it (but I'll admit that I was slightly more engrossed with the approaching Tiger as it entered the staging area It parked up next to the Panzer III and you could see that it really was a big beast).
