USAF Gloster Javelin

F-32

Recommended Posts

This is another one that briefly appeared over on the WHIF site. Made from the old Airfix kit the back story is that NATO used the Vietnam war to test its aircrew and aircraft in different roles in a real war situation.

However, they didn't want it to be known that this was taking place and so a special USAF test unit was setup to evaluate foreign military aircraft. Crewed by RAF personnel the Javelins fought well even managing a Mig kill using their guns.

The Firestreak was deemed unsuitable for the tightly turning Migs and was similar to the Sparrow in this regard. Javelins were evaluated for three months before returning to the UK. None were lost although a number suffered damaged.
