Going Commando...

Being forced to stand around on an airfield, waiting for the test aircraft to appear, I kept myself busy with my camera :D

Then a pretty Mk7 turned up to do some load lifting:

Then a Mk3, who spotted some FOD and landed to pick it up!

Now anybody care to name the airfield. If I were to name the people NOT allowed to guess, that would give the game away - but they know who they are !

Nope. I was there hanging around for a gurt big EH101 to turn up. Didn't see the silver machine.

Bex - Merryfield is a satellite airfield for Yeovilton, about 10 miles west of Yeovilton near a village called Ilton, just north of the A303.

Nice Commando pic's - almost a full walkround without any walking!!! The head-on shot is cool, that machine just looks like it means "mean".

Brill pic's Grant,

Lovely HC4 shots, my favourite chopper.

Got any more?

Not with this camera, but I will be in the field at the end of Yeovilton for the airshow Friday practice/arrivals day, so I expect to get loads of junglie shots then!

I couldn't believe the full 360 he did right in front of me. The coolest 'walkaround' I've ever done!

Great shots Greg. Got me stumped - who, what, where, when????

cheers

Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) Air wing.

Cockerill Bks in Freetown.

2004.

Taken by yours truly as I was serving in their Army for 18 months.

The A/C was donated to them by Qatar and is the only VIP fit junglie. I've got a full exterior and interior walkaround of it including details of the engines, rotor heads etc.

The pilot was a South African Neil Ellis who is quite famous in Aviation circles as having the most shoulder launched SAMS fired at an individual aircraft in one engagement and getting away with it! Quite an interesting bloke to talk to funnily enough.

Well you live and learn. I would have guessed Middle East from the paint scheme and the number of windows suggestion some sort of VIP fit, but I would never have come up with RSLAF!

Thanks Greg.
