If you are interested in the build thread, it is HERE It was difficult to photograph showing the weathering and finish as it appears to the eye, but I'm mostly happy with how these have come out. Obi-Jiff... the inflight display is a reasonable idea on these type of kits as they somehow don't look right sitting on the ground! The kit has some skids as undercarriage but I thought it'd look absolute pants like that. The biggest problem was getting the thing into the disc!!! You have to flex it outwards in order to slide it in... took hours to get it in there without snapping the disc in half, or scratching the finished model... and that was with 2 of us doing it. I really couldn't see one person managing it without making a mess of it! Once it was done, it looked a lot better in the disc than I thought it would, so they're a good idea from my point of view! I always thought the DV Tie was closer to 1/32 just because of the size of the Vader figure. 1/43 sounds about right for the X-wing though (it's marginally bigger than the new 48th FM kit). I'm only speaking from memory, cos my two DV TIEs are packed away in the loft, but I would have said it was somewhere near 1/32. That also contradicts what I said about the TIE and X-Wing being the same scale, but what do I know?! I was probably suffering from lack of chocolate when I wrote that... That SW model website says the standard TIEs are 1/51 to match the TIE Interceptor. Shame they weren't scaled to match Darth's ship, would have made for a good trio. Still, with the Revell mini-kit of Darth's you can do the DS trench in 1/72, full of X-Wings, Y-Wings and TIE Fighters. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

In some shots, the cockpit glass has that 'oil on water' effect, is that just the plastic? or did you coat it with something?? Can't say I'm too keen on the display disc, don't know why, but at least it looks better than my little 'un which is just plonked on the shelf! You don't see it with the naked eye very much at all, but I had a polarising filter on the camera so it picked it out quite a bit.
