Jay
Read about this in Aeroplane Magazine in Feb. They say it's pretty much intact and one of the oldest P38's to see action in the 2nd WW. Lets hope that Duxford can bring it up and do their magic, and we can have another P38 flying again in this country.
Mike
Sadly, I think the idea is to preserve it in its current state... I can see why, but I'd love to see one of these babies flying
GoonerChris
I think that all of us would love to have as many flying examples of any aircraft as possible but in this case, after 65 years under water, it depends on what effect the water has had. In theory, the sand should have preserved it pretty well and there ought not to be too much corrosion. Whoever gets the gig to deal with this baby will do a fine job. I wouldn't mind seeing it in the ARC at Duxford.
Mike
Apparently, because of the way it's been buried, there's not much in the way of oxygen for corrosion to nibble away at the airframe, so it's in pretty good nick. I really hope they do/can restore it

Vickers McFunbus
Lets hope that Duxford can bring it up and do their magic, and we can have another P38 flying again in this country. Somewhat unlikely, considering the organisation at Duxford most likely to be interested has a policy of disposing of its twins at the moment (Mitchell, Tigercat, Beaufighter). The other well funded collector at Duxford already has a P-38 in the US IIRC.
