Fujimi 1/72 Phantom FGR2

Tim, :wow: what a cracker! It's a lovely scheme for a phantom, although I am slightly biast. I was lucky to help restore the cockpit section, when she was scrapped (criminal). Here's a linky to the article:

I was so engrossed in the project that I drew a picture of her aswell :smartass:

The cockpit is now at the City of Norwich Aviation Museum if you are interested. Such a shame they couldn't have saved the whole airframe, but it had to be destroyed under the 'Central Forces Europe' treaty. Anyway, I'm not trying to hijack your thread, sorry

Great model of a beautiful aircraft mate. Top job :thumbsup2:

Regards

Andy :)

Nice story Andy, thanks for sharing it - I'm sure the rest of Britmodeller will agree.

Superb drawing - well done and thanks for showing us that.

I had spotted the cockpit photo on Thunder and Lightning site, but thanks for the link.

Why did you restore the canopy in red - did she ever fly like that?

Hi Tim,

I believe that it was a proposed scheme for the display season, as she was the 56 Sqn display aircraft for a couple of years. I'm sure she never flew like it though. In the proposed scheme, the red went all the way down the spine and joined onto the red tail, and I rekon it would have looked stonking.

I don't know who made the final decision for the restoration project but I think it was Mick.

As a point of interest, Bob Daniels, in the restoration article is the same 'Cpl R Daniels', who's name is adorned on XV424 at Hendon. He is very proud of that, and is such a nice bloke. I'm glad for him that his favourite part of his career has been preserved in the RAF museum.

Well done again for a great model. Stunning!

Regards

Andy :)

Nice build Tim

How was the build generally, reason I ask is I have a few of these to build now that I have switched down to 1/72 for space.

Reason I ask I'm just about to start two of these, one as a 43 Sqn bird, and one as Triple ones black mike.

Very good build - no fit problems that I remember.

I do remember this being quite rushed though.

I've now got that FAA Phantom in my stash. It's slightly different in having separated ailerons, rubber tyres, and the exhaust detail might be improved.
