Just to prove this project isn't dead - this is the much smoother and cleaner upper surface repaint

Have a look at how much one of these kits went for, on e-bay last night?.

Linky :fraidnot:

:gobsmacked::gobsmacked::gobsmacked::gobsmacked:

This kit cost me £10 from a trader at the Souther Expo 2 years ago, admittedly missing the clear parts, but my god that's crazy !!

Skii,

As a newbie I have been following the progress of this project with great interest.

It really is tremendous stuff - the scratch building, the immaculate build, and above all your patience and persistence in search of perfection.

As for taking the Dremel and saw to the painted and almost finished model - that takes some bottle. I found the whole project inspirational - thank you.

Could you give away some secrets on how you achieved the final (really final?) stunning finish please?

Best wishes.

Thankyou guys, and Peter - welcome to Britmodeller, glad you are enjoying my build , albeit a bit stop-start, sorry about that !

The painting was done by mixing a slightly lighter shade of Xtracrylix gunship grey with a little barley grey, and applying a smooth top coat, then the different shapes cut from tamiya tape and applied, spraying the original normal shade of gunship grey over them, albeit not completely over the model as this makes the paintjob look uniform and bland. I actually did this in 3 stages as there are 4 shades of grey on there!

cheers :)

John

Great progress John, good save on the paint job , I feel a kinship here with my B-70, ...stop, start and lots of patience.....................wont stop till it's right !!..... :deadhorse: !!,(would make an interesting pairing of US bomber technology at one of the shows :hmmm: )..

Looking great John!

That's a very odd looking plane, I wonder what made the designers think of making a bomber that shape???

Looking good though!!! :clap2:

Fro Wikipedia:
Theoretically the flying wing is the most efficient aircraft configuration from the point of view of aerodynamics and structural weight. It is argued that the absence of any aircraft components other than the wing should naturally provide these benefits.
You can go there and look up flying wing - even if it is wiki, it might still be true :) Edited by hatchet
