Mirage 2000 intake q's

OK, why are there windows in the intakes on this aircraft? One is in the port side near the top & the other on the starboard side near the bottom & rather strangley shaped (go here & see the latter below the small strake & behind the red/white warning triangle: http://www.airliners.net/photo/France---Ai...00D/1249162/L/). Just curious!

I wonder about that as well. The only thing I can think of that it is for checking somekind of fuel level or oil as that window is on both sides of the aircraft. I do know that the models of Heller have those windows, and I have one of those. Currently I'm building three mirage 2000 1/72 of Heller which are the prototype machines. When ready I sell them at an aviation fair as their detail level is very low. I have completed 1/48 Mirage of ESCI later re-issued by Italeri. :smartass:

I think the one on the Starboard side is a lamp of some description, possibly extendable (judging by the arm on it)

Not sure what you are referring to on the port side though, unless you mean the auxiliary air intake on the top of the duct above the port strake.

There is also a small transparent panel (frangible) over the external emergency canopy jettison handle as well, just to the rear of the cockpit on the port side.

Hello,

AFAIK, the glazeing on the port intake is the "police light" used to visually ID intercepted planes at night; I knew it on the 2000 C fighter, but to my knowledge, it's not on the two seaters. It is also present on the Mirage F1, but this time on all models (C, CR and CT)

The one starboard, is indeed a folding light and if I remember correclty is used for in-flight refueling.

HTH

Stef so presumably, the port side glazed panel should be painted over on the D/N?

Had a quick trawl on airliners.net and can see the "police light" on the port side of the 2000B, 2000C and on the early prototype "N" which I presume was originally a "B" .

Nothing in that position for production "N" or "D" though.

Looks like my italeri 1/72 2000C needs a bit more work! Look no Light!

aaaarrrgghh !

the 1/72 Italeri 2000 :who-let-rip:

Bear with me, your models is nicely advanced and painted and your skills are not faulted

but that kit (the italeri one)

OMG, what a piece of crap ... The wing, for instance, is the one of the Mirage III, where the 2000 is a isocele triangle ... The tail is the prototype one, and so on.

Of course, in the end it will look like a Mirage 2000 ... well, quite

Cheers,
